The Road to Worlds: First Edition Regionals

After three months of excitement, the Regional Season has drawn to a close. I think that makes this a good time to review the overall results. I've been collecting the results in a Google spreadsheet: this info and more can be found there. Here's a handy, more visually appealing table that includes all the First Edition winners, and some information about their decks; for now, we're only looking at Regional results. Over the season, I've refined my classification of deck types, so you may notice some differences between how the article labels a deck and how the table does. (PS, Mael, please don't look at the code here, I've gone and nested tables.)

Now, the Second Edition table will include the affiliation of the deck, but First Edition's more complicated than that. Would I go by the affiliation icons associated with the deck? Doing so would drop many important parts, like Bajoran Resistance Cell or the Son'a. Should I list all the play engines that each deck uses? No, I don't want people to need to scroll for three screens just to read the table. Also, just listing the play engines misses the draw engine half of the story. So, instead, I've got some charts expressing the frequency of use of the various play, draw, and bonus point engines.

Finally, I took a look at what the most popular dilemmas were in the 17 winning decks were. Also, like I do with Second Edition, I kept track of who won a Regional while using a dilemma that no one else who won did. There's infinite diversity in infinite combinations, maybe you'll find a new gem amongst these rare-but-winning dilemmas.

Thanks (and my apologies) to everyone I've harassed for commentary on their decks; these articles are more than half the creation of your feedback. We've still got the Second Edition wrap-up and Dilemma Popularity Report yet to come, and this weekend is the European Continental Championships in Munich!
