Worlds 2017: Come to Orlando, Stay Together

Worlds 2017 Room Block information

It is hard to believe Orlando will host the Star Trek CCG World Championship in just over four months.

We want as many people to attend the event as possible. That is the reason Worlds is being held on Columbus Day weekend (October 4-8) when there is a long holiday weekend.

As mentioned before the event is being held at Campus Cards and Games across from the University of Central Florida.

We would love to have everyone who is planning on attending Worlds to stay together at the same hotel. This will allow the fun to continue late into night after the game store closes for the night.

Therefore the organizers (myself, Daniel Matteson and Rick Kinney) decided to set up a room block at a nearby hotel.

I apologize for taking so long to publicize it, but I wanted to make sure to get a good deal. We did not know until this spring if UCF would be hosting a college football game that weekend. A game would have meant higher room rates at hotels near the school. Thankfully, the Golden Knights are away Columbus Day weekend.

So onto the details about where we hope you will choose to stay.

We set up a room block at the Fairfield Inn & Suites Orlando East/UCF Area. It is less than 1½ mile from the gaming store.

I stayed at the hotel last year for the North American Continentals and found the experience enjoyable.

The price is within everyone’s budget, too. Rooms in the block are just $129 a night (taxes not included) for a standard room with two queen beds. That is a savings of about $35 dollars a night over the regular price and well below the prices of other nearby hotels.

If you split a room between two people you will only pay $64.50 a night. Four people and the room cost is just $32.25 each.

The best part? The amenities.

You get a complimentary full service hot breakfast buffet, free high-speed internet access, 24-hour on-site fitness center, and free parking. Each room has a mini fridge, iron & ironing board, coffee maker, microwave and HDTV with access to Netflix and Hulu.

Outside there is a heated swimming pool, outdoor patio, gas grills, and a fire pit.

The breakfast area on the ground floor has ample room that could easily be used for some late night gaming.

The hotel is also less than 20 miles from both Orlando International Airport or Orlando Sanford International Airport. If you do not rent a car (or get picked up by a local), you can get to the hotel by taxi (however, it is not cheap), or by ridesharing using the Uber or Lyft app. The cheapest option is to take the Go Lynx public bus for $2.25 one way.

Be assured, we will make sure any players who decide to stay at the Fairfield can get a free ride to the gaming store.

As far a food options near the hotel, there are plenty. There is an IHOP, World of Beer, Ruby Tuesday, Pei Wei, Lazy Moon, Tijuana Flats, Cold Stone Creamery, Panera Bread, Buffalo Wild Wings, Chick-Fil-A, and Wendy’s all within walking distance.

The room block will open up for reservations starting NEXT WEEK. I will provide a link in another article so you can reserve a spot to get our block rate.

There are three things to keep in mind.

First, reservations MUST be received on or before September 4th to take advantage of the discounted room block rate. A credit card (Visa, Master Card, American Express, Diners Club International or Discover Card), a debt card (Visa or MasterCard) or Visa Checkout (online payment system) is needed to reserve a room; I believe you may use a pre-paid debit card as long as it is Visa or MasterCard. 

Second, the room block has a limited number of rooms. There is no guarantee extra rooms will be available once the block is full so you will want to reserve a room right away.

Third, the room block I set up is for Wednesday night to Saturday night (4 nights). However, you are welcome to extend a room (at the same $129/night price) for days before or after the block period, pending hotel availability. If you want to extend your stay in Orlando beyond the four nights, I suggest you reserve a room soon after the block link is posted.
