Coming in 2011: Achievements

by Charlie Plaine, Chairman

3rd December 2010

Any of you that have played games on XBox Live or the Playstation Network, or those of you that play World of Warcraft, will recognize this exciting new system we'll be rolling out in 2011: achievements!

Achievements are designed to provide an open-ended, wide-ranging and diverse series of goals outside of the normal rewards of organized play. Achievements are meant to reward diverse competition, creative deck building, and participation in events of all types. Most importantly, achievements will provide rewards outside of ratings points as well as a way for players of all skill-levels to participate.

How They'll Work
Achievements will be earned automatically based on the results of tournaments or events entered into our tournament system. Most of them will require participants to have created their decks in our deck builder applications and to link them to tournaments; however, this is good for the community as more decks means more opportunities to learn.

You'll be able to click on any player's profile and see all of their currently earned achievements, and they progress they've made on some of the more complex achievements. You'll also be able to see a master list of achievements (except for the hidden and secret ones) and a list of players that have earned those achievements.

When some of the rarest or most difficult achievements are earned, you'll see your name in lights via our front page, our Twitter feed, and our message boards!

Achievements will come in all shapes and all sizes, from the simple:

Deck Builder
Post a public deck in the deck builder.

To the complex:

The Circle
Win a tournament with a Bajoran deck in which every personnel has Treachery.

And from the quick and easy:

Enter the Ring
Play in a World Championship Trek League tournament.

To the slow and steady:

Where No Man Has Gone Before
Play in twenty-five tournaments or events using Original Series decks.

There will be First Edition specific achievements:

Variety is the Spice of Life
Play in First Edition tournaments or events using each of the four primary 1E tournament formats.
•Open •OTF •Revised •Standard

Achievements just for our Second Edition players:

Strange Bedfellows
Play in a Second Edition tournament using one of these unusual combinations of dual headquarters.
•Bajor/Romulus •Cardassia Prime/Ferenginar •Athos IV/Founders' Homeworld •Earth (DS9)/Qo'noS •Earth (SF)/MotW (TN)

And achievements just for our Tribbles fans:

Do The Math
Score a lifetime total of 1,771,561 Tribbles.

When it's all said and done, there will be achievements for deck designs, tournament formats, ratings points, playing in different regions or continents, and more. The system is also infinitely expandable, so we can add more and more achievements as you earn your way through the ladder.

We're excited about this system, and we can't wait to put it into action in 2011. Stay tuned for more information about this system and what you can expect from it!
