The Regent's Flagship

by Matthew Zinno, Staff Writer

18th September 2015

The Regent's Flagship As Charlie mentioned in his announcement article, Crossover has two [RC] engines for each Mirror Universe faction, one for use with Mirror Terok Nor and one without. My favorite of these is The Regent's Flagship, for KCA decks not based around Mirror Terok Nor. It's based around Regency 1 (which is the Regent's flagship, naturally), allowing reports and free reports aboard. The engine even downloads the ship (to somewhere you can report it, such as a [MQ] Outpost). Those free reports are limited in affiliation, to [Car] and [Kli] only... and only if you maintain the [DS9] icon from Reshape the Quadrant. You also get a once-per-turn download (in place of your card play) of a [KCA] leader -- once per game per affiliation (and not [NA]), so you might, over time, get the standard ruling council of Intendant / Security Chief Garak / Regent Worf. In addition, all your [TE] icons get erased, to prevent cross-faction stacking -- so, for example, if you're using a handful of [NA] Terrans in this deck, they can't match your opponent's [TE] Mirror Terok Nor, or benefit from the classic Mr. Sisko, or any of the [TE] verbs in this set. You're playing KCA.

That can serve as a play engine, and in this set the [KCA] has one of my favorite draw engines I've seen recently.  I've personally never found much use for draw (or download) engines related to mission solves, like Determined to Stay or Diverse Experiences ... it's too late then, I've already solved the mission. I want to get resources earlier. Historic Coming Together rewards you with draws on the first attempt of a mission. The more [KCA] affiliations you have involved, the more draws you get. Plus, a small point reward, also just for the attempt.

Here's a deck that uses both of these, along with several other Crossover cards.

Historic Coming Together Of course, the personnel and ships have Deep Space Nine property logos, to keep the [DS9] icon from Reshape the Quadrant. (This includes Captain B'Etor, who's being reprinted with that logo to match her sister.) The personnel selection is built around Historic Coming Together, with [KCA] personnel appearing in a variety of affiliations. Cardassians include Overseer Odo, Garak, and the three support personnel who can be downloaded with Assign Support Personnel / Dominion War Efforts. Klingons include both sisters and Regent Worf. All of them play for free thanks to The Regent's Flagship. Less free, but adding to the rainbow, are some Mr. Ferengi, Smiley and Mr. Sisko, and the new Intendant. The Bajorans can be downloaded with The Regent's Flagship, and Overseer Odo is flexible in his affiliation -- you can choose whichever is more convenient both for downloading him, and for Historic Coming Together. Some other universal personnel are provided to fill skill gaps -- and the Emblem of the Alliance (downloaded by Search for Rebels) lets most of them report for free, augmenting what you get from The Regent's Flagship.

Regent Worf should be downloaded with Defend Homeworld on the first turn; that way he can quickly grab for you both of his special downloads. Pride of the Fleet is not listed below because it hasn't been revealed onsite yet, but it can get you an extra draw every turn. Taking Charge gets you a download of an Objective each turn, to easily get Historic Coming Together where you need it.

Looking over the deck list, you might see two personnel who you feel don't belong. And you're right, they really don't. I've said that every deck should make sure it can handle Quantum Incursions, and so I made sure that this deck does. Oran can report through a TMW to provide one [AU], and Gareb can report through ASP (or download with Bricklayer) to provide the other and the Empathy. He will break your RTQ, so don't report him until the endgame, and only if you actually do still need him for QI.
