Hi!
I’m James Heaney. You know me as BCSWowbagger on the forums. I’m a 1E player, think Star Trek Cards is the greatest game ever made, and I try to help out the Continuing Committee where I can – I moderate, I’ve contributed to the site redesign project, I wrote a 1E rulebook (currently under review), and I try to make myself useful answering rules questions.
But Star Trek Cards is just my secondary hobby. My main hobby is running Star Trek: Excelsior.
Star Trek: Excelsior is a fan audio series about the voyages of the U.S.S. Excelsior-C in the late 24th century. (A fan audio series is like a fan film series, except made for radio. You can get us from iTunes and listen to us on your drive to work.) Our cast and crew, who are spread throughout the world, record and assemble each episode without ever meeting in person. You can find us at StarshipExcelsior.com, or listen to a sample scene from our episode "Picking Up The Pieces".
With Star Trek’s 50th birthday coming up next year, we wanted to do something very special to celebrate. And some very special people were willing to help: about a week ago, Walter Koenig and Nichelle Nichols committed to joining us for a special anniversary episode of Excelsior. It’s an episode about Chekov and Uhura, at the peak of their careers, as they are confronted by a crisis that threatens the entire galaxy – past, present, and future. It’s going to be amazing.
So, to make this episode happen, we did what all the cool kids are doing these days: we launched a Kickstarter, which runs until December 18th.
Please check out the Kickstarter here: http://www.starshipexcelsior.com/kickstarter
As you can see, it’s not a large Kickstarter (especially compared to behemoths like Renegades and Axanar), but it’s still a lot more than any one of us has in the couch cushions. We hope you’ll consider supporting us. If you can’t do that right now, then spreading the word to people who can support us would be a bit help, too. (On that note, thank you to Charlie Plaine and the CC for giving us this platform today.)
Whether you’re able to back the Excelsior 50th Anniversary Nichols-Koenig Special or not, we cannot wait to open this birthday present with you and all the rest of Star Trek fandom on September 8th, 2016.
May the Great Bird of the Galaxy bless your planet!
