2016 North American Continental Championships

by Daniel Matteson, Tournament Director

9th December 2015

About a year ago, I had the honor to announce thatTrek Masters: Orlandowould be taking place in April of 2015. This turned out to be an enthusiastic success, and was a great weekend for both our local Cardassia region players as well as the travelers from all over the country.

Players from Texas, Tennessee, Washington State, Illinois, Ohio, Massachusetts and more came. We graciously appreciated all those that made the long trip to Florida to play Star Trek CCG with us.

Since that event, I've had a number of players ask me when we would get another high-level event in Orlando. Another Masters perhaps, or even something larger?

I'm very happy to finally be able to answer those questions today. TheNorth American Continental Championshipswill be migrating to Orlando for four action-packed days of Trek on June 23-26th, 2016!

If you live in Florida or have visited us in the past, you already know what a great location Orlando can be to host a high-level Star Trek CCG event. The city and surrounding region have plenty to offer, such as numerous theme parks, nearby beaches, shopping centers and fantastic nightlife. Orlando is one of America's vacation spots thanks to Florida's warm weather (and I think a certain cartoon mouse may also have some influence), so the city has hundreds of places to stay, many with competitive rates.

Florida is also home to Kennedy Space Center, the launching center of America's space program. KSC is a short drive from Orlando and is a worth a day trip. You can tour an actual launch control center, see Launch Pad 39B, Space Shuttle Atlantis, and an actual Atlas V rocket. You might even get to see an actual launch up close (launches can also easily be seen from Orlando).

Another reason to hold a high-level event in Orlando is our talented players. Florida is home to two regular playgroups with players of all skill levels that enjoy the game. Many top players live in the area; in fact, our own local players (Geoffery Peterson forSecond Editionand John Kinney forTribbles) were able to win two out of three ofTrek Masters: Orlando'sevents, and many players here are hungry for another chance to show what they can do in a high-level environment.

As withTrek Masters: Orlandobefore it, North American Continentals will be jointly managed by three talented directors. One of Cardassia's regional ambassadors, Rick Kinney (T-Ricks), will handle the majority of ourSecond Editionevents. Tampa player, Sean O'Reilly (Jono), will coverTribblesgames, while I will handle ourFirst Edition offerings.

HOST VENUE

The entirety of our four days of events will take place at Campus Cards and Games, a store owned by local player Eric R (rycar60), who we are thrilled to be collaborating with again.

Campus Cards & Games is a large game store with plenty of table space, dozens of board games for open gaming, and even a beer bar. It's a fantastic location to play some Trek and we're glad to be back there.

Here is the venue information for our events:

DECKLISTS

As with all high-level events, deck lists are required for all Continentals events. Please have your deck list ready to turn in at registration time. If you have an earned bye, you'll still need to be present at registration to officially enter. You may change your decks for Day 2. If you qualify, please have another deck list ready at that time.

A wide variety of board/card games (or additionalTribblesgames) are available and can be played to help cover gaps, late night play, or anyone looking for something else to do while at the location.

Rick, Sean, and myself are once again thrilled and honored to be hosting this event, and looking forward to seeing you here in the summer! We are hoping everyone who made the trip to Florida last April will come again and because Orlando is easy to travel to from cities in Canada and Europe, players will be willing to travel far for what is sure to be a great event.
