2017 World Championship Dates

by Daniel Matteson, Tournament Director

20th September 2016

I can't tell you how excited I am that Orlando, Florida was chosen as host city for the 2017 Star Trek CCG World Championships. I have relished every opportunity to collaborate with my colleagues Rick Kinney and Sean O'Reilly and put on the best show we can for the Star Trek CCG community at large. Ever since the Worlds announcement, we have received a great response from players that are considering making the trip or have already decided they're going, and so I'm expecting a large, diverse, and talented collection of players next year to challenge for the First Edition, Second Edition, and Tribbles World Championships.

If you're thinking about a trip to Orlando in 2017, I'm sure the first thing you'll want to know is when these events are taking place. We promised when we first made the Worlds announcement that getting Worlds dates locked in was our first priority and that we would get them to you as quickly as we could. We had several factors to consider in deciding on dates, the most important of which was availability of the venue. Having worked out a plan of action with our good friend Eric Robinett at Campus Cards & Games, we have managed to lock in our Worlds dates.

The 2017 World Championships will be held October 4th - 8th, 2017. This is effectively Columbus Day weekend (Columbus Day is the following Monday, the 9th). And yes, in case you didn't notice, that is a five-day stretch of events. We plan on running events beginning Wednesday night (likely with a WCT championship event with a last chance Worlds bye as its prize) and finishing up on Sunday afternoon (likely with Tribbles Worlds and perhaps a trophy presentation).

Our next step will be to draft up a complete schedule of events, including side events. This may take some time and may also be subject to change as plans develop. I've created a thread in the World Championship forums asking for suggestions on what kinds of side events traveling players wish to participate in, and this will give us some insight as we work on our schedule. We'll also be looking into the possibility and availability of a hotel room block for travelers that wish to stay close by.

I'll have more information on the 2017 World Championships as it becomes available. In the meantime, I hope to see you in Orlando next October!
