Worlds 2017 Room Block information (part 2)
I wrote two weeks ago, I would be posting a link so you can book your stay in The Continuing Committee’s room block at the Fairfield Inn & Suites Orlando East/UCF Area.
Again, the price of a room is $129 a night (not including taxes) and includes a free hot breakfast, free wi-fi and free parking (among other amenities).
You can book your stay in the room block right now by clicking here.
There is a limited number of rooms in the block so I suggest booking as soon as possible. The discounted room rate (about $35 less than the regular nightly rate) is good for the period from August 4 to 8.
As I wrote two weeks ago, a longer stay at the hotel either before or after our scheduled period using the discounted block room rate is possible pending room availability.
A credit card (Visa, Master Card, American Express, Diners Club International or Discover Card), a debt card (Visa or MasterCard) or Visa Checkout (online payment system) is needed to reserve a room; I believe you may use a pre-paid debit card as long as it is Visa or MasterCard.
If you have any questions about the block or making reservations please feel free to contact Sabrina Russell, the Sales Coordinator for the hotel. The hotel phone number is (407) 270-6480. Her direct email is srussell@napleshotelgroup.com. Please make reference to the “Trek CC” room block in any correspondence.
You can also private message me on here. My handle is “Jono” or email me at suddenlyhuman@yahoo.com (yes, that email address is a Star Trek reference).

Other things in Orlando that might interest you other than playing a card game:
Kennedy Space Center (http://www.kennedyspacecenter.com) is only about 40 minutes away from the hotel. I highly recommend anyone who has never been there before visit the home of America’s space program. The normal ticket is $50 dollars and includes a bus tour to the Saturn V rocket complex (inside is a real, unused Saturn V rocket), free admission to the Astronaut Hall of Fame, and the Visitor Center area which includes the rocket garden, the Space Shuttle Atlantis exhibit, free IMAX movies about space and other exhibits.
But, I suggest you spend buy a $79 two-day pass for two days at KSC so you can take time (and spend a little extra money) to do some Kennedy Space Center tours (each is $25). I have taken advantage of them. Depending on availability, there are up-close tours to restricted areas including the KSC launch pads and huge Vehicle Assembly Building, a tour of the KSC Launch Control Center (used for actual Space Shuttle missions), and best of all, a tour of Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.
On the tour of the Air Force Station, you will see the actual launch pads NASA used during the 1960s including the Mercury missions and the ill-fated Apollo I mission. You will also see the buildings SpaceX and Orbital ATK are leasing for launches. One caveat, as this is a working U.S. military installation you will need a valid passport (for non-U.S. citizens) or a driver’s license (for U.S. citizens) to take this tour, which is available Thursdays to Sundays.
Walt Disney World, Universal Studios and SeaWorld are about 30 minutes away from the hotel southeast of downtown Orlando just off Interstate 4. The theme parks are fun, but they are not cheap with some ticket prices over $100 a day.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom just opened a new attraction Pandora: The World of Avatar. There is a motion ride and a boat ride that take you to the world from James Cameron’s blockbuster movie.
If you really want to take a ride to space, you can try out Mission: Space at Epcot. The ride allows you to experience up to 2.5Gs. I don’t like roller coasters but I do like this ride.
Universal Studios has the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. You need the more expensive park-to-pass so you can take the Hogwarts Express train and experience both Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley.
There are other attractions to see in the area including Legoland Florida (great for kids) in Winter Haven, Busch Gardens in Tampa, and the great beaches in Clearwater, Cocoa and Daytona.
See you in October!
