Lieutenant Jadzia Dax: So what do you think?
Major Kira Nerys: Think?
Lieutenant Jadzia Dax: The nose.
Major Kira Nerys: Oh! It-it's flattering.
Lieutenant Jadzia Dax: I'm thinking of keeping it.
In this series, I will show off some beginner level decks that people have sent to me. Today’s deck is Matthew Zinno’s “Bajor for Bajorans. And some Ferengi. And a Klingon. And someone who is secretly a Trill.” deck. This deck especially shows off the power of Regions.
Missions
Four out of the six missions in this deck are in the Bajor Region. This is very important for a Bajoran deck, as missions in the same region always seed next to each other. Matthew’s notes say that you should seed Deep Space 9 at Alter Records (AKA Bajor) where you will try to get The City of B’Hala Artifact. Matt’s notes say he always encountered Dead End at Bajor, so that’s something to look out for when playing this deck. You can seed your other artifact, The Orb of Wisdom, at Characterize Neutrino Emissions right next to Bajor. The other missions in the same region are Refuse Immigration and Relocate Settlers. Matt has also included Locate Terrorist Leader and Security Briefing, but he says he never needed to leave the Bajor Region.
Other Seeds
Chamber of Ministers is here for the free play of Kais, Vedeks or Ministers. You will want to use Reshape the Quadrant to download Alliance for Global Unity as another free play mechanic for any of your personnel who have “The Circle” in their lore. This incident also has a bunch of other cool things it does; downloading personnel, an HQ, Bajor for Bajorans (a nice draw mechanic) or Bajoran Civil War (good protection against other Bajorans invading your space or a good download). I suspect that you should get HQ: Return Orb to Bajor to score bonus points from the Orb of Wisdom.
Another suite of seeded cards helps protect your Deep Space 9 from invasion. Contain Boarding Parties protects you from an opponent who initiates battle on the station and lets you download Sisko 197 Subroutine. We Need You Here takes away the site restriction on drawing cards if you use their download. It also lets you download more sites in place of your card draw, and there are a few in there to add to the station. Speaking of sites, Quark’s Bar is here. Who doesn’t love a little Dabo? Finally, I think the most intriguing non-dilemma seed card is The Celestial Temple. This time location (it’s another enigma!) allows your Orb personnel to get extra draws. Just watch out for those armadas knocking on the door of the Alpha Quadrant.
Matt’s notes say that this set of dilemmas is not a typical spread, as he was going for the Emissary and Friendly Fire families of achievements. I see that Between Duty and Respect is here. This 2E conversion looks better than the original. I wish that Bajor region skill doubling was there. Maybe then people would actually use it. He also notes that Maquis Vendetta + Friendly Fire looks like an intriguing combo and I can see why. The first one stops a Leadership personnel and then can stop two more people if that personnel has OFFICER or SECURITY. Then you need two Leadership and two SECURITY to get past the Friendly Fire, so it’s more likely to hit. Sadly, he says no one encountered that combo to see if it actually works.
Draw Deck
Most of the personnel in this deck appear to be free plays either via Alliance for Global Unity or Chamber of Ministers. There are also a number of folks who will go to Quark’s Bar. For instance, Leeta is how you’ll get out Dabo. I’m not sure why Dakol and the Cardassian Disrupter Rifle are in here. I understand that they’ll probably be the target of Defend Homeworld, but he messes with your Bajor for Bajorans drawing mojo, being Cardassian and all. I guess a Strength 12 personnel is worth it if someone tries to take control of your DS9.
What I’ve Learned from This Deck
Sometimes you’ve got to protect your territory at all costs, even if it means bringing in your enemy to help.
