Weekly 1E Roundup - 16 OCTOBER 2019

by Charlie Plaine, Director of First Edition

16th October 2019

Welcome to the Weekly 1E Roundup, a weekly column looking back at the past week in the world of First Edition as well as a preview of the week ahead. If you've got an event coming up and you'd like to be featured in this column, feel free to contact me at cplaine@gmail.com or on the forums via PM to MidnightLich.

The Big News

It's been a very quiet couple of weeks for First Edition, and I haven't had a lot of big news to talk about. But there are a lot of really cool things coming down the line for 1E, so I'm hopeful pretty soon that we'll be lousy with news. In the mean time, tell me what kinds of things you'd like to see me highlight as "The Big News" when we have slow weeks. Should I dive deep into non-CCG Trek news? Dig deep into decks that people have posted? Tell personal antecdotes and stories? Or just skip weeks like this? Let me know!

Raise the Stakes

Tournament Reports

This past weekend saw a pair of events scheduled to happen in Denison, Texas. As of the time of this writing, no results have been reported into the tournament system. However, according to the event's Facebook page the 1E Tin Draft was won by Michal Van Breemen (The Ninja Scot). His prize was a cowboy ribeye steak that he seems to have enjoyed with great vigor. Deanna Troi was the first pick with Data being the second, and as the event was in Open format, Raise the Stakes factored into several games. It sounds like fun! Hopefully I can go into more details when the results are posted.

But I hope more of you were able to play or spend time with your cards, even if it was outside official tournaments. We'd love to cover casual games too! If you'd like to have your 1E get together covered in this column, let me know! You can find my contact information at the bottom of every column, and you're welcome to email me, PM me, or just post on the forums.

Tournament Previews

This coming weekend has just a single event scheduled, the inaugural tournament of the League of Eternal Destitution's 2019-20 season. Justin Ford (Resistance-is-futile) is hosting the OTF Complete tournament at his home in Auburn, Washington. He's the only registered attendee at this time, but no doubt last year's champion Michael Van Breemen will be looking to defend his title.

The Road to Worlds 2020 will kick off in November with two high level events: Space Coast Trek Masters in West Melborne, Florida on November 10th and British Nationals in Greater Manchester on November 16th. Both evens are looking for more players to pre-register, and we'll be covering both in more detail as we get closer to the event dates.

First Weekend First Edition will be back November 1st-3rd, so get your plans in motion now. We'll be offering a really cool prize that I'm hoping to have more information for you next week. But even if you're playing outside that weekend, let me know! Contact me at any of the links at the bottom of this column, and I'll happily promote your event in a future edition of this column!

Short Takes (In Other News)

The Time Capsule

This week last year, Michael Van Breemen won the 2018 World Championships, becoming a two-time champ. Last year's event was held in Australia, and you can look back at Lucas Thompson's Road to Worlds article to read about the decks Michael piloted. Michael is just one four players to have earned the game's highest title twice, a group that includes this year's champion Peter Ludwig (martok88).

And speaking of Michael, he became our North American Continental Coordinator five years ago, a position he still holds today. Congrats on your volunteer job anniversary!

And apparently mid-October is a newsworthy time, as we announced The 15th Anniversary Collection ten years ago. These would be some of the very first new virtual cards for First Edition, including the expansion Chain of Command and the promo set Things Past.

That's all for this week's roundup of First Edition news and events. For more news, you can follow The Continuing Committee on Facebook, Twitter, or bookmark our front page. News about upcoming First Edition projects can be found in the most recent Project Status Update from August 2019. My next Office Hours will be Sunday, October 20th at 9 AM Pacific time. If you've got an event coming up and you'd like to be featured in this column, or if you have comments about this column's content, feel free to contact me at cplaine@gmail.com or on the forums via PM to MidnightLich. Until next week, may you expand your power in the universe and live long and prosper.
