Been kicking around a "player of the year" idea the last couple weeks anyway.
How would your "player of the year" differ from #1 YTD?

Anyway, I'm hardly claiming any sort of exclusive right to do this sort of thing. I'm just not willing to run my own separate system to handle tournaments not sanctioned through the CC.

Different goal. I'm thinking one that rewards playing different people, and just plain *playing* more.

Elo doesn't handle small pockets of community well, especially if a high-ranked player leaves (you can't win points that just don't exist anymore). So I'm thinking something a bit flatter and simpler that doesn't reward you for beating someone for the twentieth time that year.

That’s just some 2E guys throwing toys out of the pram. 1E can continue uninterrupted.

Golf and Tennis only rank X number of tournaments a year. I know golf rankings work on a two-year rolling scale (anything older means nothing).

Ive been wanting to see a two year system like that, where only the 4 majors in the US count, Euro/Aussie/canada (Russia and South Africa) nationals, Continentals, and Worlds count.

Keep ELO, but that's just a chess-style system. I think Trek more reflects Golf & Tennis.

Problem is, you need an OP department that wants to make events matter. Not just slap titles on locals.

Apologies John - I didn't mean that to sound like it did. While I may not agree with your methods, I am hopeful that you've actually helped drive us towards better regulations and processes in future.

The local hookers have just offered me a free ride for my frequent business. No such service from the local casinos though... ;-)

But now the 2E guys have said, with regard to their protest, "Ah, screw the whole thing."

Austrian Nationals is in the books. The only move in the Top 10 is 1E Champion Stefan Slaby moving up the 1E rankings from ninth to fifth, though he also lost a single point in 2E but remained comfortably in third.

You know, I should update this again. (And I'd like to know what tournaments are yet to be processed--or completed, if online--for 2017.)

But it appears that something's going funny with the ratings again (I highly doubt that Kevin Jaeger managed to jump 100 points in 1E and 2E since my last update without playing since July), so I'll have to hold off on that.

The ratings (for 2017, at least) appear still to be screwy.
