Middy (~285mL/10 oz) = 1 Drink.
Pint (~570mL/20 oz) = 2 Drinks.

These more closely reflect Standard Drink quantities too, far better than last year when we were all over the place with 330mL stubbies counting as a drink and pints as two.

Of course, I am assuming wherever we end up for the Biermeister they'll have middies. :)
sorry to cash in late on this topic, the most common form of drink is the schooner glass, it is about 430 mls and is usually worth 1.7 standard drinks (depending on beer of course). I dont know if the Arthouse will have pints, did they last year?

I dont think a middie has been consumed in NSW for 15 years lol

oh and now for the real question! how will the Infinite Diversity drafts work? Is it actual drafting like in magic the gathering? or is it sealed? How do we choose our missions?

Yep, they did.

They offered water in smaller glasses which looked middy-like, but my memory of the night is still a little hazy...

In any case, we'll look into it on Wednesday. May pay a visit in the arvo to work things out beforehand.

The cards and the PDF with the cards and rules (careful, it's 17MB!) can be found here.

But if you can't be bothered with that, I'll just give you a quick low-down of the ID Draft:

Each player gets the same fixed ID cards. These cannot be drafted. You also get a 9-card mission pack, along with a number of weighted (weighting based on your mission pack) 9-card "booster" packs.

We split up into draft groups and draft the weighted booster packs and anything else I throw in ( ;) ). Then, we all go build ourselves decks with those cards.

We play a number of 45-minute games with altered rules. The alterations are just a abbreviation of regular victory conditions.

Of course, for a full, properly-worded explanation, best click the link above and download the PDF. ;)

For the 1E fun, do we also need to know the revised rules as opposed to the new OTF ones?

I need to know, a Dominion War Efforts has an appearance depending on it. :P

The Australian First Edition Continental Championships will be in Official Tournament Format.

Please note the rules and banned card list. Also note the erratum file, as well as the rules concerning 1EC and Converted cards.

More info on OTF can be found in the Restoring First Edition articles, which can be found on the front page.

Any questions, please feel free to ask them here!

Thanks for the help!

It'll be sooo good to play 1E again.

Also, the second lot of prize support arrived today. How many more are coming?

One more box.

In case anyone else is wondering, Mike is about to be in receipt of the last of THREE boxes of prizes that I've had sent directly to Sydney for the 2010 AC! There's just so much cool stuff there, and I simply couldn't carry it all myself from Perth to Sydney. :)

Still have a few more things I'll be carrying with me, such as the awesome certificates in the same style as those I've done pre-2009. I will also be personally be escorting (under lock and key) the pages and pages of CC promos, real and virtual foils, badges and raffle tickets, which will be up for grabs at the AC!

Don't forget all, we will be distributing prizes at the end of the weekend, at the conclusion of the final tournament (either the Sunday Sealed or 2e Finals, whichever finishes later). Be there or be squarish-shaped!

Please note the following amended rules for the Biermeister. Changes marked in bold.
Amended Biermeister Rules wrote: :cheersL: Australian Biermeister Nationals Rules :cheersR:

Version 1.1

1. Drinks during games (i.e. for game text) need to be bought and consumed within the allowed time limit for the round. Drinks for Victory Points need to be bought and consumed within the allowed 20 minutes between rounds. The time between rounds is dictated by the time from when you finish your game, until 20 minutes after the last game for the round is completed. No advance drinking or advance purchasing of drinks allowed.

2. A "Drink" will be determined on the night. Ideally, it will be as close to a "standard drink" as possible, but we'll adapt according to the best available measures. For fairness, the Drink must be the same for all participants (no substitution allowed, no matter what the alcohol content).

3. The following result in automatic disqualification from the Biermeister (not from the tournament): Spilling of fluids on cards/sleeves; refusal of service from bar; vomiting; any excessive behaviour not in the spirit of the game (may also result in tournament sanctions). Vomiting will not result in disqualification, as long as it is done in the toilet..

4. The tournament will be scored normally. All participants, including non-drinkers, are welcome to come and play (note that the venue is licensed, hence 18+).

:cheersL: Biermeister Tie-Breakers :cheersR:

Biermeister rankings will be determined by the number of beers consumed. Ties between two or more players will be resolved in the following order (order reset when a tie is broken):

1) Beer-Head to Beer-Head (number of beers drunk against opponent - between two players only)
2) Number of Beers drunk for Victory Points scored
3) Differential
4) Sculling competition.

Matthyas,

In relation to the Biermeister Tourney and my defending of my Title of First Australian Nationals Bermeister Champion (HEEE!) I'm unfortunately going to be late to arrive. I have my first classes at the Taronga Training Institute (Taronga Zoo) that afternoon (4pm till 8pm) and will be in at the Arthouse likely sometime between 9pm and 10pm. I'm not sure how often the buses leave the Zoo in the evening nor how long they take to get back to the city.

That said, I'll miss the draft itself so if you could be awesome and arrange something...for that, that'd be greatly appreciated.

The other question is, last year we could drink drinks not dependent on the win/lose/draw of the Biermeister card playing itself, which counted towards the total drinks consumed. Do these drinks count again?

Also in terms of drinks themselves, why don't you simplify it to Pints = 2 drinks and Half Pints = 1 drink, then you just total up the number of pints at the end of the night consumed and bam, sorted! :D

Find out if the Arthouse sells Jugs as well as it is generally cheaper to buy jugs and then just pour out the drinks into pints yourself. Also, generally Jugs are on sale for a limited time during an evening so see if there is a limit and if so what time that shuts down, and possibly you may be able to wrangle a for us only (I assume you are reserving the seats again :)) jugs all night or what not if they do indeed sell jugs. Not sure with the Arthouse.

So yeah, that's me...and unfortunately I can't attend the weekend...though Friday 2nd July is my 25th Birthday, which is kind of cool. :D

Cheers all,

Luke.

P.S. Matthyas if you need to contact me for any of this best way is via facebook. Badger Robert, he has me added already. :)

Luke, I've PM'd you.

Oh, and I forgot to mention in the PM, we are most likely going for four rounds (if there isn't time, final round's doubles).

I imagine that the WA boys are either in the air or have already arrived here in dear old Sydney for the Continentals, ready to flex their muscles. So in the interests of fair and spirited competition, I wish all good luck over the coming days!

The question remains, will we need video technology to help the tournament officials? Is that what Picard would want?

The Beermeister was fun. Thanks to Matthyas for organising it and everyone else for turning up. :)

Interesting statistic for foreign onlookers: Rob Dawson and I have been in four Continentals together yet have never faced one another in glorious combat nor a game of Trek.
