This came up in a game that Aaron and I played last night.

Beverly and Will were part of a crew who faced the following dilemmas:
1. The Clown: Bitter Medicine - Aaron chose Navigation. Since Will has Nav then the Cunning of Bev & Will drops from 7+8 to 7+6 for the rest of the turn.
2. The crew hit Subspace Shockwave next... and therein lies the question.
a. Do Bev & Will combine their cunning and overcome the dilemma with cunning of 13?
b. Or does the dilemma hit because Will now has cunning of 6?

Thanks

Glossary -- Dual-Personnel wrote:Specific criteria – If a dilemma targets a personnel who meets specific criteria, such as the “most CUNNING” or “lowest STRENGTH,” examine the relevant attribute of each individual on a dual-personnel card.
I think the glossary is enough for this one.

From the dual personnel entry of the Glossary:
Specific criteria – If a dilemma targets a personnel who meets specific criteria, such
as the “most CUNNING” or “lowest
STRENGTH,” examine the relevant attribute
of each individual on a dual-personnel card.
If either individual meets the criteria, both
personnel are affected by the dilemma.
For
example, if the “most CUNNING” personnel
in your Away Team is Nog (on Jake and
Nog), then both Jake and Nog are “stopped”
by Altonian Brain Teaser. (They pool their
CUNNING for the “If their CUNNING <15”
clause.)
Emphasis mine.

My original inclination was to say that Will can't pass Subspace Shock Wave since he's no longer a Navigation personnel with Cunning>7, and his skills and attributes are separately and distinctly identifiable from Beverly.

However, given the above entry, I could see a reasonable interpretation being that Will and Beverly can both contribute their cunning to the requirement, thus getting past the Shockwave.

I guess, but i thought it was looking for a requirement and wouldn't go to the pooling stage. It wouldnt find a cunning >7 nav personnel.

 This is correct.

Your other interpretation is a misinterpretation. This clause is not relevant to SSW, because nobody is being targeted. That would mean that there's an effect that's going to happen to indivuduals but not the entire crew, and that's not what this dilemma does.

What you have here is not a criterion but a requirement -- which, in fact, neither of the individuals meets.

Does this mean The Clown: Bitter Medicine would hit Bev's Cunning, too?

No, because Beverly doesn't have Navigation.

Not that the way this entry is worded isn't confusing.
