Federation[Block Draft] Federation Free-Plays
Introduction
This was a TNG Block sealed draft. I randomly selected the Federation Starter, and customized it with 5 dilemmas, 8 personnel and 1 ship drafted from three TNG boosters. I planned to use Daimon Bok (played via Temporal Micro-Wormhole) to capture an opponent's Picard if the situation arose. Other than that, I planned to mega-team my way through dilemmas.

Round 1FerengiStuart MarshFW (+100)
Stuart was playing Ferengi, with Scientific Diplomacy for additional free plays. He made the mistake of seeding his outpost four missions away from Host Metaphasic Shielding Test, so had to staff a ship and fly it there to actually get his free plays. While he wasted a couple of turns getting there, I was building up a team to attempt with. A first turn Surprise Party meant I had a wide choice of cards in hand to play each turn. Stuart's dilemmas stopped my first attempt, and then Daimon Bok came over and captured Picard. Nuts. That was supposed to be my trick!

While Stuart spent a few turns getting free plays with Scientific Diplomacy, I busted through my first mission, and was almost through my second. At this point, Stuart realized he was playing "constructed" style and not "sealed" style, and began to fly his ship back to his outpost for some attempting. He also attempted with what he had at his outpost, but I stopped two 1-man attempts with Flim-Flam Artist (after Stuart mis-read the dilemma for the second attempt). On my turn, I completed my second mission and blew through my third for a shutout.

Round 2KlingonWilliam HoskinFW (+70)
Will and I had a few practice games the night before. He was Klingon, I was Ferengi. I was slightly concerned when he drew the Klingon starter to play in the tournament. He said he knew the weaknesses of the deck and could play around them. I, on the other hand, only had one game of experience with my deck, where everything seemed to go perfectly. If my deck had any weaknesses, I didn't know about them at this point.

As soon as the spaceline was laid out, I knew Will was going to try and steal my universal mission. It was sitting between four of his missions (two on either side), and I wasn't sure I could get there before him. It turns out that I could have, but the turn after he cleared most of the dilemmas, I didn't have the correct skills to nab it. Bugger. The following turn, he overcame Forsaken (placing two copies of Zegov under his deck), and completed the mission.

Meanwhile, I had cleared all the dilemmas at Salvage Borg Ship, but had been prevented from completing it by Diplomatic Intervention. Will (reminder: playing Klingon) downloaded Deanna Troi to my mission, and I only had one unstopped Diplomacy in play at the time. Undeterred, I attempted Investigate Destruction next to it and ran into a Radioactive Garbage Scow. And, I only had one Engineer at the mission...

On the following turn, I was faced with a choice of flying to the planet mission, solving, picking up my second engineer, then returning to the space mission and having to wait because the Scow would still be sitting there; or, I could play Diamon Bok using Temporal Micro-Wormhole, solve the planet mission, tow the Scow there (with the help of Bok's Engineer), leave the scow behind and then return to my space mission to continue the attempt there. Guess which I did? Cha-ching: two missions completed.

Will's decision to put two copies of Zegov under his deck backfired when it turned out he needed her Greed to complete Steal Technology. Once I cleared out my third mission, having had one mission skill all be stopped by dilemmas, he knew the game was up. He only had the range to fly to two missions. He didn't have the skills for one, and he had yet to attempt the other. My Dignitaries and Witnesses stopped his attempt, and all was left for me was to win the game.

Round 3FederationTF_LokiFW (+60)
This was a mirror match versus Paul. With five duplicated missions, we were in for a game where one of us would work our way through 7 or 8 dilemmas at a mission and the other could steal it.

As it turned out, Paul and I both seeded the same dilemma combo at Host Metaphasic Shielding Test. Eight dilemmas became four, and he walked through three of them. Virus stopped him eventually. The following turn, he completed, but Birth of "Junior" was slowly destroying his ship, so he had to abandon it at the mission. Over the following turns, Paul failed to overcome Maglock, A Good Day to Lie and Maglock again (after forgetting it was there).

My own mission attempts were not too bad, considering the number of dilemmas I had to face. Eventually, I had all but cleared three. I just had Maglock, Diplomatic Intervention (with 3 diplomacy on the mission) & a suspected Friendly Fire to overcome. Unfortunately, I only had 2 strong Officers, 2 Diplomacy and 1 Security in play, so I couldn't overcome any of them. I had the cards in hand to do it, but none of their skills overlapped and it would take me three turns to play them all and win the game. This happened while Paul was hitting (and re-hitting) my wall dilemmas, so I had just enough time to take the win.
