Tournament Report - 1E Sealed - Deep Space 9 Regional
2012-04-22 - 11:00 AM
1E Sealed deck
Introduction
Since we were here for the weekend and, more importantly, neither Amber or I had to make a deck, we both signed up for the 1E. The foily pre-release was the icing on the cake as we wouldn't have had a way to get one otherwise and, more importantly, got Amber to agree to play :) Looking through the cards I got, I couldn't believe it when I saw that I had not only the Reunion mission but the means to solve it for 40 points. While it never happened for the entire tournament, it was a cool premise and with the two Temporal Micro-Wormholes, that was the theme. I put all of the ships into the Tent save for the T'Ong which was a great pull. After all, who doesn't like getting a ship with three people into play (or with using the Space-Time Portal) doing it twice :) The prize support for this was way more than I was expecting and totally awesome - Dr. Soong t-shirt, Lore t-shirt (mine was really holey after 13+ years), the Deep Space Nine demo tour t-shirt, buttons, foils and other yum-yums. Way to go Corbin!

Round 1FederationAmber Van BreemenFW (+65)
I had a great opening hand - T'Ong, Vash and a bunch of other people. After doing the download of the Space-Time Portal, I dropped the T'Ong into play and use Dig to draw into more people to drop the T'Ong again. This gave me a huge lead in terms of people and went at my missions. Interphasic Plasma Creatures hit me at first (didn't have two Science yet), Hippocratic Oath took Farek to Cargo Rendezvous where he was needed with his Greed and I got 5 points from REM Fatigue Hallucinations. Meanwhile, Amber went to her Fever Emergency mission where she was getting stopped with each dilemma, even able to take out a person of my choice before the last dilemma. Being the good husband, I didn't go for the total lockout and spared her 8-strength K'mtar (Malfunctioning Door was the last dilemma) I solved the last of the three planets for the win, the only round where I solved only planet missions.

Round 2Corbin JohnsonFW (+50)View opponent's Report
He had missions that I could steal which was great since I have only one natural Physics in my deck and a number of Security/Leadership/Officers but don't really trust space dilemmas. I got hit by the following - Armus: Sticky Situation (random Klingon), Assassin's Blade (taking out Riker), Cardassian Trap (taking Scotty), Outpost Raid (taking out Vina and Suna) and Firestorm (taking out Ira Graves and some random Klingon) I manage to get through my Investigate Incursion after playing Senior Staff Meeting to get past the first dilemma. Meanwhile, Corbin got stuck with a perfect Make Us Go (taking out Scotty) and Cardassian Trap (taking away his 9-integrity Kareel Odan), forcing him to Excavation. He manages to solve that mission along with Establish Relations, taking his self-seeded Mysterious Orb in the process. I'm daisy-chaining my ships to get to his Investigate Incursion after he's attempted as I remembered what I put there - Abandon Ship and something else. What I do forget was to play a second Security personnel (a personnel that I have in my hand right at this time but didn't play) so that no matter whom he named with Mysterious Orb, I'd still be okay. Luckily for me, he didn't didn't name Roga Danar (my only Security) and instead took Spock away to a far-away land. The remaining people were able to solve the mission for the win.

I see the Triple-Treaty hit the table so I seeded Fair Play as a self-seed. He has only one mission that's stealable but it's on the opposite side of the spaceline. Even if I T'Ong people there, I'd have to hope that my one Astrophysics person or Vina is there which is not likely. I seed my weakest dilemma combination there since I'm not expecting to steal it. Then I see his outpost placement which meant that he was probably going after that fairly quickly. More importantly for me though - I have K'Tesh, torturer of Entertainment Tonight and the NBA on NBC theme music - in hand along with a Wormhole. It meant giving up my Space-Time Portal so no Reflection Therapy (which I never ending up using in any game for some reason) but when he started attempting, I was in position to strike, especially when I saw the Flaxian Scout Vessel. After getting stopped by Cardassian Trap (taking away Kurn), I took my ship of seven people and Wormhole'd over to his Explore Interstellar Matter and used Senior Staff Meeting on Altonian Brain Teaser and passed All Availabe Personnel for the 25 points. Lastly, I attacked his Scout Vessel, damaging the ship. I continue reporting people to the outpost, taking my ship back to my spaceline. After Michael solved his outpost planet mission, he takes his still-damaged ship to Study Stellar Collision, getting stopped by an Edo Probe in the process. This is the same location where my ship is located at. One battle later and he's down a ship and a whole lot of people which is all she wrote.
