If Away Team/crew meets conditions, Law, discard dilemma. Mission continues. Otherwise, opponent chooses a one Away Team/crew member; place dilemma on target personnel. Away Team/ship and crew are stopped.

If targeted personnel dies at any time while targeted by the dilemma, opponent scores points. Move dilemma to your opponent's bonus points area (Borg opponents that trigger scoring do not score bonus points. Discard dilemma).

If target leaves play for any reason other than death (e.g. returned to hand), discard dilemma. If target is ever "in play for uniqueness only" (e.g. under the Kobayashi Maru Scenario Incident), dilemma remains on the target.
