Welcome to Ferengi Week

by Maggie Geppert, Vice Chairman

28th January 2018

Welcome to Ferengi week!  To get in the spirit of things, you might want to check out some Ferengi episodes.  You could see the more militaristic side of the Ferengi by watching The Last Outpost or The Battle. You could watch a suite of Ferengi episodes that span two series, The Price followed by False Profits.  They were often used as a way to comment on capitalism and sexism.  Females were seen as possessions in their society, as shown in Rules of Acquisition and Ferengi Love Songs.  Much to the actors’ dismay, the Ferengi were often used as comic relief in episodes like Profit and Lace and Take Me to the Holosuite. Sometimes those roles are all mixed up in one and make for TV gold, like in The Magnificent Ferengi.  I always ponder this question – why were there only six Ferengi?  It just seems weird.

We have some fun stuff for you this week.  Charlie Plaine will be telling us about Ferengi design in First and Second Edition.  I’ll be checking out basic Ferengi decks for First Edition and Second Edition.  Ross Fertel will be talking about Extreme Measures.

My guests this week are Chris Penney and John Corbett discussing their Top 5 Ferengi cards for First and Second Edition, respectively.  Spoiler: John cheats!

Now to this week’s puzzle.

Your goal is to create the Magnificent (Ferengi) Seven.  Using cards from either Edition, choose seven different Ferengi personnel.  Then you may use up to seven other different cards to boost those personnel.  The person who comes up with the highest total strength for those Ferengi wins the contest.

PM your solution to me (jadziadax8) before 11:59 pm CST (that’s -6:00 GMT) on February 3rd, 2018.  The winner will choose between a themed First Edition or Second Edition promo card.
