Welcome to Khan Week

by Maggie Geppert, Vice Chairman

2nd September 2018

Welcome to Khan week! Khan only appeared twice in the Prime Universe, played each time by Ricardo Montalban (oh, the abs!).  Hi first appearance was in Space Seed, as the leader of an 84-person crew put in stasis and sent to the stars.  Eighteen years later, Kirk will encounter him again in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.  If you haven’t yet seen this film, shame on you!

We have some fun stuff for you this week.  The Khan faction is mostly a Second Edition deal, so Charlie Plaine (MidnightLich) has a design article for that Edition.  I’ll be checking out a Khan deck in Second Edition and I hear that augments are a thing in First Edition, so I’ll be digging around to see if I can find something fun along those lines to analyze.  Finally, Ross Fertel will be discussing the expansion that brought us Khan in 2E, Unnatural Selection.

This week’s Top 5 video brings back my good friend Al Schaefer (ltkettch17) to tell us about the Khan deck he’s been using to wreck our local tournaments.

This week’s Khan-test is brought to us by Ross Fertel again.

The legendary Ricardo Montalban performed the role of Khan twice. The second time he had his career explode from relatively quiet beginnings. This is true of a lot of actors, both regular and guest, on all series. Please PM me the name of an actor who had a meteoric rise to fame after being a guest on Trek. Sorry, Montalban won't count for "yes we Khan!"

Your answer needs to be dated before 11:59 pm CDT (that’s -5:00 GMT) on September 8th, 2018.  The randomly chosen winner will choose a themed First Edition or Second Edition promo card.
