Request for Comment: the Bylaws

by Maggie Geppert, Vice Chairman

28th November 2018

The Prime Directive is not just a set of rules; it is a philosophy... and a very correct one.

                                                                                    -Jean-Luc Picard from “Symbiosis”

The Continuing Committee is getting nearer to being a completely independent entity.  As Chief Financial Officer Justin Ford has already reported, we have a Tax ID Number and a bank account.  The next step is to adopt a set of bylaws to govern ourselves.  Justin found a template to help write these from the US Internal Revenue Service.  He, Chairman Charlie Plaine and I have spent the last year working on this document on and off to fit it to our needs.  For a variety of reasons it has been slow going, but we have reached a point where we would like the public to comment on it and suggest changes.  This is especially important because we would like these Bylaws to govern the Period of Review coming up in January.

The link provided will allow you to view the document and make comments.  Please take a look at everything, but we’re especially stumped at the area where we discuss confidence votes on Board members.  We’d like to hear your opinion on who is eligible to vote and how many people are required to make a vote binding under the Bylaws.  Please look over everything else and let us know what works and what doesn’t work.  We’d like to have public comment wrapped up by December 21st, as the Board is currently scheduled to meet on the 22nd.
