Weekly 1E Roundup - 12 FEBRUARY 2020

by Charlie Plaine, Director of First Edition

12th February 2020

Welcome to the Weekly 1E Roundup, a weekly column looking back at the past week in the world of First Edition as well as a preview of the week ahead. If you have questions, comments, or suggestions for content, you can contact me at cplaine@gmail.com or on the forums via PM to MidnightLich. I'm happy to write about your tournaments, get togethers, or other 1E-related goings-on. But for now, let's get into the column and see what's been going on in the world of First Edition!

The Big News

The 2019 Period of Review has concluded with the annual vote, in which all current board members retained their seats - including yours truly. Out of the one hundred and ninety-two (192) ballots, just under fifty percent voted. 84.52% of you wanted me to remain in the position of Director of First Edition, for which I am extremely grateful. I am happy to be able to continue to serve all of you for another year.

But it didn't escape my notice that I had the highest number of votes to recall, indicating that at least some of you want to see a change. I always want to hear feedback from everyone, but I am particularly keen to hear from those of you that don't want me in this role. Your reasons are your own, and I don't expect you to identify yourself, but I can't improve or address concerns if I don't know them. In order to allow everyone to feel comfortable giving feedback, I've set up an anonymous Google Form for anyone's use. You can give any feedback you like, and if you do want someone from the Department to reach out, you have the option of providing contact information.

Thank you all for the opportunity to continue to serve. I look forward to a great year of First Edition, and I'm eager to hear any feedback you might have.

Tournament Reports

Last week saw a single tournament, with Robin Honeycutt (robin1234) hosting an OTF Complete Constructed event at his home in Eden, New York, in the United States. Robin was joined by his regular sparring partner Mark Panna (Shambinks) and New York regular Amanda Geunther. Amanda's deck isn't available, but she took 3rd place on the day. Mark took 2nd place with a Delta Quadrant Klingon deck, while Robin won the day with a Vidiian deck. Robin's deck seems to continue his recent trend of borrowing other player's decks - in this case, Brian Sykes (Armus) - and playing them. No doubt he's learning the ins and outs of other affiliations and enhancing his own considerable skill with other's ingenuity. He will be a force to be reckoned with in the New York City Masters event coming in March.

Meanwhile, in the City of Angels (Los Angeles), Robert Bozich (robotBozic) defeated Jon Callan (jCallan1) in a casual game, 115-0. According to recurring contributor Graham Matuszewski (matuszeg), it was a battle between players trying out new decks: "Rob had just recently built this deck and was trying it out for the first time to great success. Rob was able to destroy Jon's ship with most of his crew down on a planet and shut him down for long enough to push ahead and finish the game. Jon was also playing a new deck that he found online.

I'm happy to cover tournaments and casual games in this column - you just have to let me know. You can find my contact information at the bottom of every column, and you're welcome to email me, PM me, or just post on the forums. So if you're out there, playing 1E in any way, shape, or form, tell us about it!

Tournament Previews

We've got a single scheduled tournament this weekend, hosted by Justin Ford (Resistance-is-Futile) is Auburn, Washington, in the United States. This league event will be an OTF Complete Constructed event hosted at Justin's home. Right now, two players have pre-registered for the event - 18th ranked Michael Van Breemen (The Ninja Scot), and 44th ranked Richard DeLashmit (benericardus). Of course, Justin himself is 17th ranked as well, and Ferenginar is also home to Ken Tufts (Worf Son of Mogh) at 16th. This will be an event to watch!

If you have upcoming events, get togethers, or anything else scheduled that's 1E related, let me know. I'd love to feature you and your friends in this column.
