Classification: Civilian was tournament legal February 18, 2022. We just finished the third weekend where it was unfolded unto the masses and there were events in Koblenz, Germany; Winter Park, Florida and Roseville, Minnesota, all of which had cards from this latest set. Let's take a look at the decks.
Pillar of the Community continues to beget and improve decks. As an example, Jeremy Benedict brings Smugglers to the forefront with Shake Yo Money Maker. There are twenty Smugglers in this deck and while there are some cards that provide some strong support, there are not a great deal of them. Beyond Pillar, this deck has Smuggling Run in to get around the corner for the win along with the personnel that are in support of that card.
You will notice a lot of Jeremy's deck in Kobolenzo by Johannes Mette, though it leans more into the Thief side of things though there is a large amount of Deep Space Nine icon personnel. Like several other decktypes, we seem to be going in both the lean, skinny route along with the big phat deck, and with a seventy-six card draw deck, this is certainly in the latter camp. You have your Commodities along with you have your equipment shenanigans for some fun. There's even a Chef to keep everyone full.
If you like to do some shooting while you solve missions, Markus Eberlein has something for you with calling shotgun. This Starfleet deck that has a lot of guns and knows how to use them. Sim, Sacrificial Lamb does not really fit into this strategy, but he will protect your other personnel during mission attempts. There is only one copy, so be sure to get him in that solving squad when it is most beneficial to you. This deck also features Christopher Pike, Prospective Orion Trader.
There were a couple decks that took the most recently inaugurated member of the Think Tank into the field. Seven of Nine, Ideal Candidate made an appearance in Rick Kinney's A brain is a terrible thing to waste. This Deep Space Nine deck has all the trappings of a fifty-point solver and support with Seven's skills proving useful to the missions available. We have seen that design will add someone to the mix after it makes a debut, building them specifically to help that decktype, and Seven is right in that framework.
Joseph Bazemore went in a slightly different route with We Has the Big Brains. This uses the Think Tank, but it also uses another group of geniuses with Genetically Enhanced Personnel. If you are wondering how the Federation aligned Seven reports, Think Tank's Ship, Ivory Tower is your answer. These two might seem like a mismatch but once you get off Ceti Alpha V you'll quickly see the synergy out there.
Last but certainly not least is a Ferengi deck by Benjamin Liebich called PAXI LEXI FIXI. This deck is almost entirely geared towards getting that extra turn with Falsify Distress Signal. There are three copies of Obol in the deck which is half of what you need right there. He is just the tip of the iceberg so if you have not been jumping into the Ferengi as of late or ever, this might be something to dip your toe into that particular pool.
We've seen Pillar of the Community being very popular after the release of Classification: Civilian, but there are a couple new other cards that have helped some other decks that made an appearance over the weekend. If you go to an event, consider giving them a try.
