Weekly Roundup

by Charlie Plaine, Chairman

8th November 2010

There was a lot of news last week, and we don't want anyone to miss anything! Here's a recap of all the news and events from last week:

TrekCC Gains a Sponsor
Follow @TrekCC and Win!
Thanks to a generous deal from Miniature Market, we're giving away a $25 gift certificate each week to one of our Twitter followers! Last week, @DanVanKampen won the first gift certificate; if you'd like to have a chance to be this week's winner, just follow us on Twitter!

Second Edition November Current Rulings
November CRD Released The regularly scheduled update to the Current Rulings for Second Edition came out on Wednesday, instead of Monday. The community was quick to point out that the erratum for Lustful Distraction created an unintended interaction, and an emergency erratum was quickly issued. All of the documentation and database entries were updated, and crisis was averted.

United States Nationals Update
The 2010 US West First Edition National Championship has had to move to a new venue. However, the new venue is just down the street from the old location and will not require anyone to alter their travel plans. In addition, the format of this event has been slightly altered to accommodate the "Back to the PAQ" Chairman's Challenge.

Finally, there was some dissatisfaction expressed by some of the members of our community regarding the rotation and the location of our US Nationals events. We started a discussion thread to solicit your feedback on the current system, and suggestions for its improvement.

Rules Committee Improvements
Forum Announcement
Both the First Edition and Second Edition Rules Committees have been doing difficult work on a volunteer's pay and schedule. While the efforts of these groups are appreciated, there have been several areas identified for improvement, and The Continuing Committee is working to make the necessary changes. The most often criticized area is communication, and we're creating two new positions meant to directly address those criticisms.

The feedback of the community is essential to this process. If you'd like to share some constructive criticism with our Rules Masters, don't forget to take part in our annual Period of Review. In addition, if you feel that a change is needed, now is your chance to cast a vote of no confidence in either of our Rules Masters.

Finally, both the First Edition Rules Committee and the Second Edition Rules Committee are looking for new members. If you're interested in joining these groups, please click the links and send in your applications as soon as possible.

Organized Play Discussion
Improvements to Organized Play for 2011
As part of our ongoing effort to solicit and incorporate feedback from the community as we make our plans, we're hosting a formal discussion on organized play. We've created a special forum for interested members of the community to make suggestions, ask and answer questions, and provide input on some of the major issues that The Continuing Committee faced during 2010.

Weekly Podcasts
Did you know that there are two weekly podcasts dedicated to the Star Trek CCGs and the community? Section 31 is hosted by SirDan and SirRogue, and offers commentary on current events, tournament reports, and the occasional spoiler. Episode 91 of this fun and informative show went up this week, in which the hosts talk about their experiences at a First Edition tournament.

An Hour With The Continuing Committee released its sixth episode this week, in which Brad DeFruiter asks your questions of Chairman Charlie Plaine. Most weeks, this podcast features different members of the community talking about the games and the issues therein with Charlie.

As you can see, lots of big events and information came out last week, especially towards the end of the week. We want to make sure you can always follow the latest goings-on, so we've got an RSS feed for front-page news that you can follow. Or can you get up-to-the-minute information via our Twitter feed.

If you have questions or concerns about any of the information found in this weekly roundup, please visit our discussion forums.
