Infinite Diversity #3: For the Cause!

Last month, you got a chance to vote on your favourite idea for a new Infinite Diversity booster pack theme. And now (at long last) we can unveil the winning theme: For the Cause!

But wait, you say, that wasn't an option! Well, technically the winning theme was either "The Badlands" or "The Demilitarized Zone", both of which had been submitted as theme ideas with the exact same set of headquarters: Athos IV, Bajor, Cardassia Prime, and Earth (Home of Starfleet Command). But when it came down to choosing which name the winning set should go by, I didn't really like either of them. I didn't feel that either properly captured the involvements of all four affiliations. And with Extreme Measures coming out in two weeks, and adding a brand new Bajoran Resistance team to virtual play (which will included in these boosters), I wanted a name that would include not only the struggle of the Maquis vs the Cardassians (with DS9-Earth running interference), but also the older struggle of the Bajoran Resistance against the Cardassians (with DS9-Earth eventually sending a team to help broker peace and run the station). The name "For the Cause" seems to sum up both struggles quite nicely, because in both times we see one team fighting tooth and nail, giving their lives for a cause that they believed so strongly in that it was worth dying for.

Even more exciting than just a new name, is how well this set ties in with the upcoming Extreme Measures release. After looking through the new expansion I've discovered that in total there are only 8 cards (out of 54) that you will not be able to find in these draft packs. That's only 4 nouns (personnel/ships), and 4 other cards. It's almost as if you guys planned it that way! Not only will these draft packs feature the Bajoran Resistance team, but they'll also be able to make use of four new cards for the DS9-Earth faction, a new Cardassian, and several new recruits for the Maquis. So if you'd like to run something a little different for your Extreme Measures release event, why not consider running an Infinite Diversity Draft tournament, using the new For the Cause booster packs? Maybe even print off an extra sheet of Kaitaama cards and give everybody one at the start that they can add into their decks to make sure they have at least one EM card in their decks (then at the end, the winners and random participants will get a free upgrade to the special release event foil version!)

Lots of fun options to be had with the new "For the Cause" draft packs. They're available now, but remember that if you want to have all of the Extreme Measures cards included in your packs, you need to wait until February 4th to print them, after all of the cards have been revealed.
