Lifesigns is Tournament Legal

The latest set for First Edition, Lifesigns is tournament legal today. A 'booster shot' for the Vidiians, their affiliation icon appears on all but one of the twenty new cards that can hit the table today. But this set is not entirely for the Vidiians; there are some missions that present interesting opportunities for others as well.

Save a Life
Modern Medicine allows many of us to donate our organs to others and save lives. Across the globe, signing up as an organ donor is one of the most helpful things any of us can do. Along side our release of Lifesigns, we want to promote organ donation to highlight this essential lifesaving option. Raid Encampment

We'll start with the sole card that does not have their affiliation icon, Rebuild Society. As it is a home world, the Vidiians will of course be able to solve it, but the two Alpha Quadrant affiliations who are most represented in the Delta Quadrant can as well. There is an extra five points if a Think Tank personnel solves it, and they are some of the best personnel out there if you indulge the Non-Aligned side of your thoughts once in a while.

If you go that route, you will probably also want to stock Enhance Treatment Research. You get a five point bonus if a Klingon or Think Tank personnel helps solve, expanding the numbers of ways to get this bonus. The negative is that there is not a bit of overlap between these two missions in terms of skills, so you'll need to diversify your personnel. Still, seventy points between the two is great.

The final mission that grants bonus points as well, Respond to Distress Call, nets you ten instead of five, but you will have to double the requirements in order to get them. The Medical and Security will probably not be too much of an issue, but the Honor or Treachery will, particularly when they have to make it through some nasty dilemmas. Remember they do not have to stop, just knock out enough skills so that you do not get the bonus and hope that makes you potentially solve another mission altogether.

Raid Encampment offers no such bonus points but can get you an Objective upon solving. This is meant for early-mid game when you want to set yourself up for more, possibly enough to claim victory. Note that as such, it is a great target for Dead End enhancing the odds that the gametext will be of less use.

On the surface Alter History seems to be great allowing you to ignore the Alternate Universe Icon while reporting even if it is just once a turn. You will note that there is no ginormous Alternate Universe ship native to the Delta Quadrant, first of all. Second, the card has to be able to report at that specific location; it does not provide the ability to do so. Right now, there are a baker's dozen of cards that can make use of this function. You won't be able to use them all in one deck since two are Borg affiliation. Nonetheless, there are some nice ones to boot. The Revised Voyager crew in particular might be able to make use of this feature as well. There is a Vidiian, Delanh that can do so, though he has none of the skills for the mission in another great use of design. Still, accessing him without having to stock a seed card is well worth the cost to free up a valuable slot. Note that since you must be reporting a card, you cannot get the benefit while playing a card such as an event.

Lifesigns is certainly a great help to the Vidiians, but every affiliation that has some connection to the Delta Quadrant will find something in the set to use. These cards are tournament legal today and would not be possible without the efforts of Rules, Creative, Art, Programming and Proofreading teams along with scores of playtesters.
