Alternate Universe: Twilight Rules Supplement

by James Heaney, Rules Manager (1E)

25th October 2024

Hello, Star Trek Card friends!

We have a small rules update out today to mark the release of Alternate Universe: Twilight, available now at a color printer near you! The update prevents an interaction discovered during the Proofreading process, by clarifying what actions you are allowed to perform in the seed phases and (specifically) that you cannot draw cards until the end of the seed phases, because you do not have a hand.

The interaction is between Strategic Base and A New Earth. A New Earth does not seed an outpost but rather plays the outpost, since the download is technically a play. This allowed players to draw off of Strategic Base in the Facility Phase, which was not really what the Seed Phase Actions rule intended to allow. Our thanks to the anonymous heroes of the Proofreading Team, and to Stefan Slaby, for assistance with this fix.

As Rules work continues on Project Bookend (almost right up to the 30th Anniversary deadline!), we do not anticipate a regular Rules update on November 4th, but look for us to return to working on our backlog on the First Monday in December.

P.S. There have been some good questions asked about the origin and purpose of the phrase "removed from this game," which appears on several cards in Alternate Universe: Twilight for the first time. I answered some of those questions in a forum post here, which some of you might find interesting: https://www.trekcc.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=630563#p630563.
