Worlds 2025 - Venue, Travel, Accommodation

by Johannes Klarhauser, Worlds Host

28th October 2024

Please note: The venue information in this article is no longer correct. The text has been updated accordingly. Please refer to this article for the new, updated details.

The STCCG World Championship will return to Germany for the first time in twelve years. After Frankfurt had the honour in 2010 and 2013, this time it is the Munich area in the beautiful state of Bavaria in the southeast of the country that will extend a warm welcome to STCCG players from all over the world.

Over the past seven years, we have had some practice at running championships with our annual Kaiserfest event, which has served as European Continental Championship for First Edition for several years now. For 2025, hosting all three games means we will have to move to a bigger venue over at the other side of the Autobahn in USH.

Even though the event is still almost ten months away, we wanted to give you some information as early as possible to give you enough time to help you plan and/or save for your trip and compare prices.

USH! USH!

From August 15th to 17th, the

Haus der Vereine
Birkenstr. 2
85716 Unterschleißheim

Bürgerhaus Unterschleißheim
Rathausplatz 1

will see players compete for the coveted title of World Champion in Star Trek CCG First Edition, Second Edition, and Tribbles CCG, but of course there will also be several side events to hopefully cater to a wide audience, like Sealed and Draft events, Learn-to-Play opportunities for new and returning players, and events using the Traditional card pool for those who prefer to play exclusively with original Decipher product.

The town of Unterschleißheim (USH) is conveniently located between Munich city centre and Munich Airport and can be easily reached by car or public transport.

The Bürgerhaus is a venue usually reserved for established local clubs, but thanks to a cooperation with Gestalten. Begeistern. Unterschleißheim e. V. we were able to secure rooms for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. While it is an older building that is currently being renovated, the most important thing is that we will have enough tablespace for all three games: We will have two rooms with a combined floor space of more than 4,000 sq ft (400m²), which should be sufficient even for those who bring all five side decks and sites and Bluegills to their 1E games.
Update: We will have even more space at the new venue, in a single room!

Currently, there is no catering option available directly at the venue, but the excellent Buddy's Bar & Burger, who earned the approval of even the famously discerning palates of the Kaiserfest crowd, is just short walk down the road from the venue - and, we can bring and sell our own drinks at much more affordable prices than what you usually find in the area!
Update: At the new venue, there will be an Italian restaurant next door and a bar at the venue. Buddy's is of course still an option, too!

How to get there?

Unterschleißheim, located just north of Munich, is only 20 minutes away from Munich Airport (MUC), one of the busiest airports in Europe. With direct connections to most of the major hubs across Europe and the world, it is conveniently located for those travelling by plane from places like London, Manchester, Amsterdam, Vienna, or across the pond from New York, Atlanta, Chicaco or San Franciso.
From the airport, either take a taxi (about 15 minutes) or the S-Bahn (rapid transit) line S1 towards Munich city centre/Ostbahnhof and exit either at Unterschleißheim station (about 25 minutes), which is only 200m from the venue.

For European travellers, both rail or road provide good options.

If travelling by train, Munich Central Station (München Hauptbahnhof) is a well-connected hub that should be reasonably easy to reach from almost anywhere on the continent. From there, take the S-Bahn line S1 towards Freising/Flughafen and exit at Unterschleißheim (about 25 minutes). The venue and hotels then are a short taxi ride or walk away (or rent one of the LimeBike e-scooters that you can find in many places around town).

If travelling by car, the Autobahn A92 runs right past the town; simply use exit 3 (Unterschleißheim). There are parking spaces right next to the venue.

Where to stay?

The closest hotel to the venue is the Alarun München. Walking from there to the venue will only take about 25 minutes, or less than five by car/taxi. The Alarun is also very close to S-Bahn station Lohhof (0.5 km), so can also simply hop on the train towards Munich city centre and get off at the next stop.

Another option is the INFINITY MUNICH. Walking to the venue will take you about the same amount of time (2 km / 25 minutes). It has received high praise for its breakfast and has been the hotel of choice of Germany's #1 football club, world-famous FC Bayern München, for several years now.

See here for more hotels in the area. Alternatively, it might be worth checking AirBnB for availability in the area.

For those among our guests who would love to stay in a more vibrant area, or simply prefer more central accommodation as a basis for their sightseeing activities, there are hundreds of options in and around the city centre of Munich. The closer to S-Bahn line S1, the easier it will be to come out to the venue to hang with your fellow STCCG players.
