British Nationals and Online Masters 2024 Draft Results

by Ross Fertel, Listed

17th December 2024

There were a couple big First Edition events in the latter half of 2024 with an Online Masters in the Fall and British Nationals held a couple weeks ago. For both events we ran a draft to see if anyone could predict five of the affiliations that would be played. Did anyone pick a perfect slate? Let's look at the decks and find out.

Klingon Death YellWe'll start with British Nationals where Peter Ludwig did what the Trek writers could not in bringing the Cardassians together with the Maquis in Oh Macias, you so nasty. Maquis personnel from all three series are here along with a Nor and three Cardassians ready to be woken up. There is a Planet of Galactic Peace in case you want to change some affiliations around.

The day would ultimately go to Paddy Tye with UK Nation-Yells, a Klingon TNG deck that has five copies of that card. Worthy of note is that there are only three cards in duplicate amongst the entirety of the draw deck, including Battle Bridge Door; Auxiliary Control, making this a very Legitimate deck.

There were several Vidiian decks at the Online Masters, three of which have been posted. Brian Sykes is Very Smart by Jon Carter makes use of tools old and new; you can find out more, including the stunning turns the games took, in his Tournament Report. Joelin02 would go a little more battle have with a Vidiian Encounter. Kris Sonsteby would keep things pretty simple as his That Place Totally Blows... My Mind, a deck with a fairly simple draw deck with a half dozen card types having only one card, though several are in multiples.

The Federation was also well represented including TM TNG Ferderation Jan.S 2024 by Jan.S which is a good old fashioned Continuing Mission deck. Maggie Geppert would go a little further down the timeline with I am Down to My Last Brain Cell taking advantage of the Battle Station cards getting a good deal of help from the Insurrection group. Find out more, including an epic win, in her Tournament Report. Joseph Wisniewski simply cannot be bothered with property logos when he runs Hologram Foolishness - v 3.0 (Masters of the Universe 2024), primary with some seed cards being shifted around from the previous version. Jarrod Cafaro would bring the Bajorans and Federation together with Staging POUND a deck which has some weapons at the ready while enjoying Life's Simple Pleasures.

Wormhole NegotiationsCharlie Plaine would go back to the twenty-second century with Niall Matthews (via Ken Tufts) is Very Smart playing an extremely streamlined deck with only thirty-five cards in the draw deck and only a Q's Tent from which to seek cards from.

Paddy Tye and Brian Sykes would both play the Klingon/Cardassian Alliance with Sucky suck /KCA and Masters2024KCA.txt respectively. They both use similar tools though the former has six Black Holes at the ready to destroy the universe while you can find out more about the latter, including a last-minute addition and how the mirror match went, in the Tournament Report.

Mathew McCalpin would play Borg with The Ultimate Answer Mark III, a deck which you may correctly suspect is Continuing Mission friendly, but it also has a lot of Opening Monologue cards. Find out more, including a lesson he learned, in his Tournament Report.

The event would ultimately go to Michael Van Breemen with Hiro Obsession. The deck has a lot of things you would expect, but the inclusion of the Battle Bridge Door: Auxiliary Control makes for a more diverse battle experience.

Between the two tournaments, only one person picked a perfect slate of affiliations played. Join me in congratulating Iron Prime for the choices made in the Online Masters Draft.

We'll see how things go next year, including March with a Masters in Alabama!
