Worlds 2025 - Venue update

by Johannes Klarhauser, Worlds Host

15th January 2025

A few weeks ago I published an article with information about the venue for this year's World Championships in Germany. Today I would like to inform you about a change in that regard that I am convinced will make the weekend more enjoyable for everyone involved.

The new address is:

Bürgerhaus Unterschleißheim
Rathausplatz 1
85716 Unterschleißheim

The Worlds events have already been updated to include the correct new address in the tournament system.

What happened?

The city council approached me offering/asking to upgrade our event into a different building. Since the new venue is the one I had originally hoped to get, I happily accepted when it became available due to a change in maintenance work schedule.

Why is the new venue the preferred choice?

The new venue offers several advantages:
[SD] Location: The new venue is about a 15-minute-walk away from the old one, but overall much more conveniently located: The S-Bahn stop Unterschleißheim is only 200 meters away. This will make it much easier to get there and back from the airport or Munich city centre by public transport. It is also a bit easier to reach by car and has enough parking spaces nearby, some of them free.
[SD] Catering: We will have an Italian restaurant right next door, so it will be much quicker to go and grab something to eat between rounds. The owner of the restaurant has a catering contract for the venue and has offered to set up a bar (incl. beer) for us in the room where we will be playing; we will be sorting out details in the coming weeks. There is also a Greek restaurant outside on the square.
[SD] Wifi: The new venue has better (and free!) wifi, so streaming should be no problem and I will try to set up a table to share of the action with those who cannot make the trip.
[SD] Size: We will have a 5,000sqft ballroom and won't have to run events in two different rooms.
[SD] Service: The new venue comes with a few perks, like staff who will set up the tables for us according to our gaming needs the night before, security service, etc. The less I (and those of you who have so kindly offered to help !) need to worry about some of those things, the more I can focus on running events smoothly, answering rules questions, and in general making sure everyone has a good time.

I'm staying at … / travelling from … What does that change mean for me?

[SD] If you booked a room at the Infinity Hotel, your walk will be slightly shorter! Yay!
[SD] If you are staying at the Hotel Alarun, the distance will be longer - but since the new venue is right next to S-Bahn stop Unterschleißheim, you can just hop on the S-Bahn at Lohhof (the stop close very close to the Alarun), and get off at the next stop. This means you can get to the new venue faster than to the old one.
[SD] If you are staying somewhere around Munich city centre, your trip to the venue will be shorter (it saves you about 15 minutes of walking)
[SD] If you arrive by car, there will be some (free) parking close to the venue, and an underground garage right below the Rathausplatz square.

I apologize for any inconvenience this might cause, but I am sure we will all benefit from this change, and I am very grateful to the good people at the City of Unterschleißheim for immediately thinking of us when this opportunity presented itself!
