The latest first Edition set, Dramatis Personae, is tournament legal tomorrow. The set contains one personnel for each affiliation in the game. Some you can base a deck around while others fit well into existing decks. You've seen a few decks in articles during the spoiler week. Today, let's find homes for the rest.
What follows are some decks that would welcome the personnel from the set. These are not endorsements, merely decks that the cards could find a home in. Feel free to modify to your heart's content.
Working our way down the cardlist, we'll start with Phlox. I cannot help but think of Sean O'Reilly's Assimilating the Alpha Quadrant that I sat across the table from. This deck is all about assimilating homeworlds, specifically those in the Alpha Quadrant. New Phlox and New Earth are the better choices. Be sure to modify the rest of the deck as well as it is a decade old, but you can get the general idea and take over the galaxy while you are at it.
Iliana Ghemor is optimized against Resistance, but she has a home in decks featuring their home as well. Her skills are of great use on Alter Records specifically and in an Obsidian Order deck more generally. Starry Night on occupied Bajor by Manuel Rupprecht has fun with this along with some returning of the Orbs just to rub it in.
With Captain Pike, the number of commanders for the I.S.S. Enterprise doubles. You can use either, but will want to get Pike to an opponent's mission for the attribute deduction. Look at something like One Man With A Vision post DH Ref removal by Mathew McCalpin, though using maybe a few more tricks to get him where he needs to be.
The Doctor is an unwilling member of the Kazon-Nistram. Their sect appears in Joseph Wisniewski's I will make them pay for what they have done! Get the whole gang together and welcome The Doctor to his new home. You will need a means of activating him, either a holodeck enabled ship such as Voyager or a mobile emitter.
The escapades of Rura Penthe grow with Prisoner Kirk. A downloadable premade prisoner, he can activate the gametext on the first turn letting you reap the rewards from the start until you have another means of doing so. Try it in something like Johnny Holeva's Klingon Classic Films - MODERN 22 - JAN 2025
The beauty of Captain Worf is that he can reliably get you a Picard early on. There are many decks this is useful in given how versatile Picard is and how many versions of him there are but consider something like Ferengi Conference v2 by Alexander Schmitz. The options exist for Federation, Romulan, Thieves and so many more.
One of Worf's archenemies, Duras, would be at home in a Klingon deck, but with him being Romulan by his other affiliation, you will want him in a Sela deck, preferably brimming with Treachery. Obsessive Schachspieler by Manuel Rupprecht has some personnel with Honor, but they are not Klingon, so compatibility issues are nowhere to be found. Remember Illegitimate Leader of the Empire benefits both TNG Klingons and Romulans.
When the set first started spoiling, Zeframe Cochrane got by far the most attention with his OCD special staffing icon. Players the world wide were immediately were drawn to a These Are the Voyagers deck Launching the Phoenix. Try him in a deck like Kevin Jaeger's Holograms All the way down.
The Vidiians got a lot in Lifesigns and are still a force on the tournament stages both large and small; Kes is another tool they can use. Loaded with rare skills and keywords, she will be of use to many decks including Kris Sonsteby's You Are Like... a Giant Cock-Blocking Robot.
The true potential of T'Mir has yet to be uncovered with her broken link, and she is limited by not having the twenty-second century icon. She cannot report to that timeframe, but Negative points are Logical by Jarrod Cafaro does not take an issue with that courtesy of the outpost.
There you have it, a deck to at least draw some inspiration for every card in the latest set and you can play with them twenty-four hors from now. Have fun playing with them! Huge thanks to Rules, Creative, Programming, Art, Proofreading and scores of playtesters for getting these cards out.
