On behalf of The Continuing Committee, I would like to express our apologies to the players who attended the advertised Second Edition National Championship tournament at the 2013 Brisvegas Championships last November, and the subsequent eleventh-hour downgrading of this event.
After consultation with the OP team and other members of the committee, a unanimous decision has been made to reverse the downgrade. Effective immediately, the event has been reflagged as a National Championship, and the winner, Garry Dillon, will stand as 2013 Australian Second Edition National Champion.
We acknowledge this will mean that Garry will be sharing the title with Matthew Ting, who won the Australian Academy National Championships in June 2013. I have already consulted with Matthew on this issue and he has graciously agreed to share the honour of the title for the year of 2013.
We are actively working to better manage the flagging and promotion of high-level events, and also are implementing a new event approval process directly through our Continental Coordinators to ensure that there is sufficient review for every such high-level event that is run in their respective jurisdictions.
Again, I apologize as both former Australian Organized Play Coordinator and current Director of Organized Play. Rest assured that, while we hold the integrity of our Organized Play system in high regard in matters such as this, the players will always take precedence.
