Make it So Challenge #8: Vote Now!

by Charlie Plaine, Make it So Host

28th March 2014

The final team challenge of Make it So 2013 is complete, and it is the penultimate time for you, the community, to vote on the winners! This will be your final chance for your votes to help determine which of the nine (9) contestants will advance to The Final Challenge. As always, your votes will have a direct impact on the future of First Edition because the winner of this competition will be on a future design team. It's more important than ever for you to vote, so let's take a look at the submissions for Challenge #8: It's About Time!

In this challenge, the teams were challenged to make a new Time Location, a new time travel card, and then fill out their suite of six (6) cards with relevant ones. Teams were advised to design their cards as if Temporal Vortex did not have a [Ref] icon, and you should judge them with the same idea in mind. With that said, let's take a look and see their submissions:

Here are the submissions:
Make It So 2013 - Challenge #8 - Team Scott
Make It So 2013 - Challenge #8 - Team La Forge
Make It So 2013 - Challenge #8 - Team O'Brien

Judging Criteria and Challenge Notes
Here are a few things to keep in mind when you're reviewing and then judging these competitions:

1. Templates. We've used our card design software, Utopia Planetia, to approximate the cards on the templates. However, the designers themselves don't have direct access to the software, and the software can be a bit off on the templates. Don't judge cards too harshly, if they spill a word or two over the template. Those kinds of things will almost always not happen when the final version is built.

2. Judge each submission in a vacuum. Two of the teams submitted cards for the same Time Location (although with different twists). Please do not penalize either of these teams for working on the same affiliations. Judge their submissions - especially their individual cards - on their own merits and not in comparison to each other.

3. Remember the challenge rules. One of the stipulations of the challenge was to create a new thematic way to time travel. Constestants were specifically instructed to design their cards as if Temporal Vortex did not have a [Ref] icon. Please judge their cards, especially their time travel card, in this context.

Remember that for these challenges, you're doing more than scoring the individual cards. Although we do want your scores and votes for the individual cards themselves (on their own), we also want you to evaluate the entire submission as a whole. The survey has been adjusted to give you the opportunity to do so. Voting is now open, and will remain open until 11:30 PM Eastern Time on Friday, April 4th. That means you have just about a week to vote! After that time, voting will be closed so that the results can be calculated and posted on the following Monday.

And that's that! Take a look at the Time Locations submitted (links above) and then vote using the survey below. And don't forget to join the discussion on the Make It So forum and help argue for your favorite cards!
