Spotlight Contest: The Voyager Code

by Charlie Plaine, Chairman

10th June 2008

Reg Barclay sat at his console in the Jupiter Station lab. It was almost time for the next transmission to arrive from the wayward Starship Voyager. He was still excited about his role in finding the lost ship in the Delta Quadrant.

The computer chimed and the data stream from Voyager began to cross his screen. Reg combed through the new data about Voyager’s mission. Captain Janeway’s logs came through first, and Reg flagged them or later reading. He was more interested in receiving the letters from the crew for their families so that he could pass them along. Just before the end of the transmission, Reg noticed some odd data tacked onto the message. If he didn’t know better having checked the signal integrity himself twice, he would have thought the message was corrupted at the end.

Turning to his right, Reg pointed at the screen and said, “What do you make of this?”

The Data Stream

1. Captain Janeway’s Mission Log: “Pulled us away…Ocampa…”
2. Sickbay log: “Patient’s organs show…disease…”
3. Chief Engineer’s Personal Log: “It was really weird…myself…”
4. First Officer’s Report: “Life forms thought we were…sexual attraction…”
5. Captain Janeway’s notes: “Tuvok tried to help…Betazoid…”
6. Captain Janeway’s Personal Log: “Strange readings…met myself…”
7. Harry Kim’s Personal Log: “Tried to scare me…”
8. Captain Janeway’s Mission Log: “Path through space…rules…”
9. Seven of Nine’s Personal Efficiency Report: “Felt his hands…throat…”
10. Captain Janeway’s Mission Log: “Holodeck technology…many deaths…”

End Data Stream

Your mission: Decode the Card Titles of 10 Voyager-related dilemmas from the information provided. Using the numbers and letters, pick out the set, rarity, and card number that matches the card title. Once you have decoded all ten, you will have several leftover characters. These, when unscrambled, form the card number of a bonus card title. Submit all ten card titles, card numbers, and the bonus to help Reg Barclay unscramble the transmission from Voyager.

The only hint for the bonus: It is Voyager-related, and it IS NOT a dilemma.

To enter, you'll need to send in each of the card titles in an email to contests@trekcc.org, along with your real name and your email address.

Your entry might look like this:

Charlie Plaine

1) Title #1
2) Title #2

Your entries must be received at contests@trekcc.org before MIDNIGHT (server time) on SUNDAY, JUNE 22nd. Please, only one entry per person. Two participants that send in the correct titles will receive a Tragic Turn foil (or, if nobody gets all of them, then the selection will be at random from all participants.)

Best of luck!
