Software Upgrades

by Chris Lobban, Chief Programmer

17th March 2015

Just a heads up that we'll be performing a series of software updates on the server throughout this week. So if you notice any oddities on the website, that's likely the reason.

The first will be an update to our core scripting language, which will take place later this morning (March 17th, 2015) at 10:00am EDT. This change will be instantaneous, and won't require any of the site to go offline in order to implement it. However, it could have any number of adverse side-effects on any pages on the site. So if you notice any sections of the website suddenly stop working around that time, please email codemonkey@trekcc.org with a full report on what page you're on, and what problem you're experiencing. Hopefully we can keep the number of bugs to a minimum and you won't even notice this upgrade.

The second upgrade will be to upgrade our forum software. This will be performed on Thursday, March 19th, 2015 at 10:00am EDT. In order for this upgrade to proceed, I'll need to take the forums offline for between 30 and 60 minutes. When the forums return, there is a possibiity that things won't all be working correctly (because of the number of custom features that I've built into them over the years). As above, if you notice any sections of the forums (or website as a whole) no longer working after the forums come back online, please email codemonkey@trekcc.org with a full report on what page you're on, and what problem you're experiencing.

Thank you for your patience through these upgrades and system changes, I hope to keep the disruptions to a minimum, but of course there's always a chance that things won't go according to plan.
