2015 Period of Review

by Charlie Plaine, Chairman

11th October 2015

Since The Continuing Committee's inception in 2008, we have included an annual Period of Review. The Period of Review is designed to allow the community to comment, critique, and change the direction of The Continuing Committee. In addition, it allows the CC to reflect on the previous year's successes and failures as we look forward to another year. In 2013, we launched a new, more involved process for our annual Period of Review involving live Google Hangouts and Q&A sessions. This year, we are continuing the format and are making further changes to make it more relevant and more effective as we begin our yearly look back at TCC.

There will be a total of six (6) livestreams this year, up from last year's five, as we have divided some of the responsibilities differently. The format will continue from last year: each review will feature a panel of volunteers that will take a frank look back at the past year, and talk about plans for the next year. Ahead of each review, we will invite the public to submit questions in a discussion thread, from which the moderator of each panel will select questions and topics for discussion. In addition, those participating live will also have the opportunity to ask questions as the discussion takes place. Finally, each Hangout will be archived on TrekCC's YouTube channel for later viewing.

The primary difference this year is the creation and inclusion of a large survey designed to collect data on our activities, and the communities feelings on significant topics. The survey will generate data that will drive much of the content of the review livestreams, with community topics and questions filling the remainder of each review. The survey is significant, but we consider it an essential tool for self-reflection.

Here's a link to the survey: http://tinyurl.com/TrekCC2015

The survey covers topics for all six (6) reviews. The complete survey has quite a large number of pages, but is designed to be as streamlined as possible. Many of the questions are simple multiple choice or checkbox, and users can comments as much or as little as they like. The survey is also editable, so can be completed in sections.

Here is the schedule of reviews. Check back later for links to the completed reviews and updated lists of panelists.

As we get closer to the dates for each panel, we will open up discussion threads on our forums to allow members of the community to suggest topics, ask questions, and share your thoughts on each aspect of The Continuing Committee both before and after the discussion. And don't worry: if you aren't able to attend one of the live broadcasts, each panel will be archived on YouTube for later viewing.

We look forward to reviewing the past year with you as we firm up plans for the next.
