"Space, the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before. " - Captain James T. Kirk
From Memory Alpha: "Star Trek: The Original Series (formally called Star Trek) is the first Star Trek series. The first episode of the show aired on 8 September 1966 on NBC. The show was created by Gene Roddenberry as a Wagon Train to the Stars. Star Trek was set in the 23rd century and featured the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Star Trek was later informally dubbed The Original Series, or TOS, after several spinoffs. The show lasted three seasons until canceled in 1969.
Ten years later, Star Trek: The Motion Picture reunited the cast, aboard a refurbished USS Enterprise, on the big screen. They would appear in five subsequent films, ending with Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country in 1991, during production of spinoff series Star Trek: The Next Generation and shortly before Gene Roddenberry's death."Star Trek followed the adventures of the crew of the Enterprise as they explored the galaxy, encountering new aliens and creatures, combatting the Klingon and Romulan Empires, and exploring new situations unknown to humanity. More importantly, Star Trek has created an entire cultural phenomenon that has persisted for over forty years, spawning four sequel shows and ten movies, with a new movie on the way in 2009.
Star Trek is one of the first shows to be given a reprieve by a network after a fan letter-writing campaign. After a decade in syndication, Star Trek grew even more popular, influencing NASA to name the prototype shuttlecraft after the show's famous starship. Phrases such as "Beam me up, Scotty" and "warp speed ahead" entered modern speech, and the iconic imagery of the show is recognizable by most people, whether they are fans or not.
Captain James T. Kirk became the youngest captain in Starfleet when he took command of the Enterprise. His intellect, charm, and in-your-face style fit well with the wild era of the Federation, and his exploits would become legend for future generations of Starfleet Officers.
Commander Spock, a half-Human, half-Vulcan son of a diplomat, became the first Vulcan to serve in the Federation's Starfleet. He was a brilliant scientist and engineer, and became a loyal and lifelong friend to Captain Kirk, as well as a loyal first officer.
Commander Montgomery Scott was a born engineer, serving in that capacity for the majority of his Starfleet career. He also served as Second Officer aboard the Enterprise, often commanding the ship when Kirk and Spock were planet-side. Scotty was responsible for most of the technical specifications still in use in the 24th century.
Lt. Commander Leonard McCoy was a kind, compassionate and skilled doctor who served in Starfleet aboard the Enterprise.. He often served as a confidante and moral compass for Captain Kirk, as well as the emotional foil for Mr. Spock's logical counsel.
Lt. Uhura served as the communications officer aboard the Enterprise, often negotiating with aliens and translating messages for diplomatic, military and scientific purposes. Her skill and natural beauty served her - and her captain - well, and for many years after.
Lt. Hikaru Sulu served as the helmsman for the Enterprise, steadfastly steering the ship through dangerous anomalies, through combat with bitter enemies, and on routine missions. Sulu was a man of many talents, with interests in history, biology, and botany, as well as piloting and command.
Ensign Chekov joined the crew of the Enterprise in her second year of Kirk's five-year mission, serving as Navigator and Weapons Officer. His youthful exuberance and his academy training served him well, and his natural ability was developed studying at the right hand of the legendary Captain Kirk.
Though they had a brief appearance (via their movie personas) in Genesis, The Original Series didn't arrive in-game as a playable sub-affiliation until These Are the Voyages. They also had a strong appearance (as their evil mirror counterparts) in In a Mirror, Darkly. All of the previous expansions also feature useful support cards that can benefit any Original Series deck.
