Sokath! His Eyes Uncovered!

by Paddy Tye, First Edition Creative Manager

29th April 2018

Dathon, of Alternate Universe. Dathon, child of Tama. Dathon, on the ocean.

Alternate Universe introduced us to Dathon, and for a long time he was the sole Tamarian available in our universe.

Togaran, of Second Edition. Togaran, child of Tama. Togaran, of Metamorphosis.

Second Edition gave us another Tamarian - Togaran - and he has been converted as part of Metamorphosis.

Dathon, his lore like Kadir beneath Mo Moteh. Dathon at Tanagra. His lore, the Beast at Tanagra.

Dathon's lore is filled with "incomprehensible" phrases from the Tamarian language. Normally a lore includes certain key pieces of information like gender and species, so using a lore worded entirely in Tamarian posed a problem... a problem which Creative needed to overcome!

Shaka, when the walls fell! Rai and Jiri at Lungha. Rai of Lowani. Lowani under two moons. Jiri of Ubaya. Ubaya of crossroads, at Lungha. Lungha, her sky gray

At first, the Creative team struggled with this problem, but then the idea of an introductory line before the Tamarian phrases was proposed. Could sharing the space between both elements work?

Temba, his arms open! Sokath, his eyes uncovered!

It took a few drafts to get it to work, but it was a success! Creative found that by giving up some of the lore space on Togaran allowed for a successful balance between both informative and Tamarian elements.

Dathon and Togaran at Tanagra.

And now, we have two very flavorful Tamarians in First Edition!
