Reorganization Leads to Greater Focus and New Opportunities

by Charlie Plaine, Chairman

2nd September 2008

"The secret of success lies not in doing your own work, but in recognizing the right man to do it." - Andrew Carnegie

One of the toughest jobs in any management position is finding ways to motivate and encourage those that work with you. One of the most overlooked keys to success in that regard is making sure that you have the right people in the right positions. As The Continuing Committee makes its plans for 2009 and beyond, it is critical that we make sure we have the right people in the right places.

With that in mind, we're pleased to announce several changes in positions and jobs within The Continuing Committee, all designed to maximize our effectiveness and put the right people in the right places.

Darren Lacoste will become The Continuing Committee's new Editor-in-Chief, in addition to his role as the head of the writing team. As Editor-in-Chief, Darren will oversee all of our official communications and documents, ensuring that The Continuing Committee has a consistent voice and style. Darren is an excellent editor with a keen editorial mind, and will be an incredible asset in this new position.

Meanwhile, Tony Gammell has accepted a promotion to become the new Director of Public Relations. Tony has done excellent work as both a major contributor to European Organized Play and as our Market Developer, and will now put his considerable talents to use as head of Public Relations. The Continuing Committee has big plans for advertising and increasing our exposure to new players across the world. Tony will be putting together an expert team to focus on these critical goals.

John Corbett will be stepping down as the North American Continental Coordinator, but will be heading-up our new league play program as the League Coordinator. The Continuing Committee is very excited to bring you league play - some of the things that are in the works are going to be huge. Stay tuned for more information about league play. In addition, John will be working with the Public Relations department to help promote our larger events.

In the meantime, Matt Kirk will be acting as the temporary North American Continental Coordinator (NACC). In the next few months, we will be looking to find a permanent replacement for this position. The NACC is responsible for promoting all events in North America, as well as dealing with incidents, applications, and all organized play issues. Interested parties should keep an eye on the front page and the FYI board for announcements involving the search for a new North American Continental Coordinator.

This is an exciting and critically-important time for The Continuing Committee. These staffing changes will ensure that we have the best people in the best positions, where they can contribute to the community in the most effective way. 2009 is going to be a massive year, and the entire Continuing Committee is excited to be a part of this exciting time.

If you have any questions, please discuss this announcement on our message boards.
