World's Global Chairman's Challenge

by Charlie Plaine, Chairman

28th September 2018

The 2018 World Championships begin in just over two weeks, kicking off on Thursday, October 11th. While players from Australia and travelers from around the world vie for the game's top title, we want to give everyone a chance to claim a piece of the action. To that end, we're happy to bring back the Global Chairman's Challenge for 2018!

As part of the Global Chairman's Challenge, tournament participants from all across the galaxy get a chance to win any of the three (3) Worlds promos just by playing First Edition, Second Edition, or Tribbles. Playing in any event gives you an entry into a drawing for the promo of that event's type. If you and your group gets together to play 1E, then you all get a chance to win a copy of the [REDACTED] First Edition promo. You can maximize your chances by playing in all three games!

This year, we're doing things a little differently by adding in three different ways to participate. Here's a quick rundown of the three different ways you can enter to win copies of this year's promos:

1. Participate in an event.
The Global Chairman's Challenge will run from Friday, October 5th through Sunday, October 21st. This time span includes the weekends of the World Championships, as well as the one before and the one after. Every player that plays in an event during this time frame will be automatically entered into the drawing for a copy of the [REDACTED] promo for the appropriate game type.

2. Play during Worlds weekend.
During the actual weekend of the World championships, Thursday, October 11th through Sunday, October 14th, bonus entries are available for all tournament participants. That means that playing in a tournament during the Worlds weekend will count for two entries instead of just one, doubling your chances!

3. Accept the Chairman's Challenge.
Many years ago, the CC used to run special events called Chairman's Challenges. These events offered rewards to players that accepted the restrictions on their decks. For example, in 2008, players could win special foils and prizes by building a Neutral Zone deck. Well, it's been years since we've had a Chairman's Challenge, and we've decided to bring it back for this global event weekend.

If you choose to participate in the challenge in any of your tournaments during the challenge period (October 5th - 21st), you'll earn a bonus entry. You can fully maximize your chances by accepting one of the challenges below in an event during World's Weekend! But even if you can't play that weekend, you'll still earn a bonus entry if you accept one of the following challenges:

Deneb Approach (Exploratory Quandary)

First Edition: Door-Net: Seed a Q-Flash to open a Q Continuum side deck, and seed two (2) or more copies like dilemmas. Note: You still have to follow your format's rules, so if playing OTF, you're limited to two (2) copies beneath missions.

Second Edition: Go Back Whence Thou Camest: Use the two Q-themed missions from Symbiosis, Deneb Approach and Q's Planet. You can use them with any affiliation and any other missions. Note: Your draw deck will be limited to forty (40) cards.

Tribbles: The Higher ... The Q-er: Use the Trouble deck in your Tribbles game.

Once the event period is over, we'll collect all the entries and bonus entries, then randomly draw five (5) winners for each game. If you're a lucky winner, you'll be sent a copy of the [REDACTED] promo on our dime, no matter where in the galaxy you call home. There are no limits on entries or winners, so in theory you could pack your weekends full of Trek and end up taking home multiple [REDACTED] promos! Only fate - or perhaps, Q - will decide!

Don't forget to follow our coverage of the 2018 World Championships while you're hanging out on that weekend playing Trek. Remember, tournaments can now be sanctioned with three (3) players and scheduled just twenty-four (24) hours in advance. Get together, follow along with the competitors in Australia, and play Trek; if you do, you might find yourself with a piece of the action for yourselves.
