The Board of Directors is Now Complete

by Maggie Geppert, Executive Officer

29th April 2019

I am pleased to announce that the search committees have fulfilled their charges and found two well-qualified candidates for the positions of Director of Operations and Director of First Edition.  These names were passed onto the current Board of Directors and were confirmed at our April meeting.

The Director of Operations search committee has recommended Brian Schaflein (JeBuS) for this position. Brian is an accomplished programmer and jack-of-all-trades. He has already been working with the current programming staff to fix issues with the website; note his work on getting the deck PDFs printable either in American standard 8.5x11" or European standard A4 paper. He heard about the problem on the Dojo's Discord, approached the CC programming staff and it got done. He has experience in project management and in his last job also worked a lot on streamlining shipping practices. Additionally, in his own time, he has been working on building an application to replace Lackey that uses modern programming best practices. All he has wanted for some time is access to a mirror version of our site to play around with. The committee feels that he is a fine candidate who will run the Operations Department well.

Full disclosure: Brian is one of my local players and this was disclosed to the committee by me upon his application. I did not ask him to apply for this position beyond this post. If you have any concerns about this, please feel free to voice them.

The Director of First Edition search committee is very pleased to recommend that Charlie Plaine (MidnightLich) take on this position on a permanent basis.  Charlie has been with the executive team of the Continuing Committee since day one.  He has been fulfilling the role of Director of First Edition on an acting basis for the last two years.  He has actually held off on some pretty big plans for First Edition because of this.  The committee cannot wait to see where Charlie takes the Department of First Edition in the future.

The next step in this process is the public comment period.  For the next month, the Continuing Committee hopes that the community will engage with these two candidates via the Request for Comment threads in the Period of Review boards.  You may discuss Brian's candidacy here and Charlie's here.  They have been given access (or retained it in Charlie's case) to all the areas of the website related to their positions and will start work on their jobs right away on a conditional basis.  After a 30-day comment period, they will be full Board members with all the rights and responsibilities outlined in the Bylaws.

I would like to take this time to thank all of the people who threw their hats in the ring to become one of the Directors of the Continuing Committee.  We all appreciate your willingness to serve and hope that you will all be able to help out the CC as your time and talents allow.  I would also like to thank everyone who volunteered to serve on the search committees.  We had folks from both within the organization and players who do not currently volunteer in any role.  I appreciate you taking the time to seriously review applications and help with the interviews. This process would not have worked so smoothly without you.
