Announcing the Dragon Con 2019 Trek Schedule

by Michael Shea, Chief Ambassador

15th July 2019

For those of you travelling to Dragon Con this year, and I am happy to announce that we'll be offering a full schedule of Trek events to enhance your convention experience.

Below is the schedule for Star Trek at Dragon Con in Atlanta.

Thursday August 29, 6:00pm STCCG Second Edition Slipstream Constructed

Fast, fun Star Trek CCG event for players of any level wanting to get a little gaming in at the start of the festivities. A player wins when they have 50 points and have completed at least one mission of any type. The time limit for each round in Slipstream is 30 minutes. Players should bring their own decks, but a small number of extra decks will be on-hand for those players who don’t have access to their own cards or who don’t have a Slipstream-optimized deck. Don't listen to the naysayers, Slipstream can be a blast! Last year's attendance for the Dragon Con Slipstream Constructed event was 6 players.

Friday August 30, 2:00pm STCCG Second Edition Demo

Learn how to play the game from actual players, including a former US National Champion. All decks and cards provided. Just show up ready to learn, or to refresh your memory, or to just see what’s new with Trek CCG Second Edition. And, if you like what you see, feel free to stick around for our Hall of Fame event at 4:00pm.

Friday August 30, 4:00pm STCCG Second Edition Hall of Fame Format Constructed

An excellent play environment with a limited card pool for players of any level who desire the challenge of building a deck without some of the usual backbone and/or power-cards. A player wins when they have scored 100 points and have completed at least one space and at least one planet mission, unless alternate victory conditions are built into their deck (for example: 5-space Voyager). The time limit for each round is 60 minutes. For a list of retired cards, see this forum post. Players should bring their own decks, but a small number of extra decks will be on-hand for those players who don’t have access to their own cards or who don’t have a Hall-of-Fame-optimized deck. This will be the first year a Hall of Fame event has been held at Dragon Con.

Saturday August 31, 2:00pm STCCG Second Edition Demo

Learn how to play the game from actual players, including a former US National Champion. All decks and cards provided. Just show up ready to learn, or to refresh your memory, or to just see what’s new with Trek CCG Second Edition. And, if you like what you see, feel free to stick around for our Standard Constructed event at 4:00pm.

Saturday 4:00pm STCCG Second Edition Standard Constructed

This is the game you remember, but with newly designed cards from dedicated volunteers. Any and all Second Edition cards are legal in this play environment. A player wins when they have scored 100 points and have completed at least one space and at least one planet mission, unless alternate victory conditions are built into their deck (for example: 5-space Voyager). The time limit for each round is 60 minutes. Players should bring their own decks, but a small number of extra decks will be on-hand for those players who don’t have access to their own cards. Last year's attendance for the Dragon Con Standard Constructed Complete event was 8 players.

Sunday 4:00pm STCCG Second Edition Sealed Deck

Relive your fondest Trek CCG memories with actual Decipher product from 2002-2007. Come 30 minutes early for a quick refresher. You don’t need to bring any cards – in fact you can’t for this format. All the cards you need will be provided. Each player will receive 1 STCCG Second Edition starter deck and a number of booster packs from which to construct a deck. You will have 30 minutes to build and sleeve your deck and 15 minutes between each round to modify that deck from the cards you get between each round. Card sleeves are not required but they are strongly recommended, and are often on sale in the gaming hall near where we play. A player wins when they have scored 100 points and have completed at least one space and at least one planet mission. The time limit for each round is 60 minutes, plus 15 minutes deck building time. Only Second Edition cards provided on site are legal in this play environment.  Take home the cards you get! Thanks in advance to Rick Kinney (T-Ricks) for donating a significant amount of the product needed to make this possible. Last year's attendance for the Dragon Con Sealed Deck event was 10 players.

That's our schedule as it stands now. If any changes are made, I'll let everyone know as soon as I know.

For all our Tribbles and First Edition players who may be attending Dragon Con - I don't want to leave you all out. In recent years' past, interest in First Edition and Tribbles at the Con has been limited, and turn-out sparse. However, if enough of you are coming and want to play, I'll gladly do everything I can to secure the space and host an event for you. Just let me know.

Finally, I know getting to and attending the Con can be expensive. So, no fees will be charged for any Trek CC events I run at Dragon Con. All you need to do is show up ready to play and have a good time.

Memberships, including one-day passes for Saturday and/or Sunday are still available. If you're traveling to Atlanta and need any help or advice on lodging, places to eat, or off-site activities for friends or family, please let me know and I'll do the best I can get you the information you need.

There will be prize support on hand, and I'll post more details in the days and weeks to come.

Cheers and I hope I'll see you there!
