Space Coast Masters Update #1: Logistics

by Daniel Matteson, Director of Communications

24th July 2019

Hello! I'm so excited to be deep into the planning of Space Coast Masters, now just a few months away, coming November 8-10th in West Melbourne, Florida, at Get Your Fun On. I hope you're considering making the trip to Florida, and if you need a little planning help, this article should give you a few insights.

Hotels

There are dozens of hotels in the Space Coast area, and a quick search on hotels.com (hopefully that link works correctly) reveals that there are eight in West Melbourne within two miles of our venue, and five of those are even on the same street, New Haven Avenue (US 192). These include a Days Inn, a Hampton Inn, a Fairfield Inn, and a La Quinta Inn, and an Extended Stay America.

Airports

The closest major airport is, of course, Orlando International Airport (MCO), but this may not be practical for everyone, as it is a 60 mile drive to the venue from the Orlando airport. What many travelers may not be aware of is that the city of Melbourne has an airport as well, Melbourne International Airport (MLB), which is only four miles from the venue. You can plan your trip from just about anywhere (with a stop) and arrive in Melbourne, or you can fly directly from Atlanta, Charlotte, Philadelphia, or Washington DC.

Transportation

Like most places these days, Uber and Lyft service is abundant in the West Melbourne area. However, there is also a public bus system, Space Coast Area Transit. Buses travel throughout Brevard County with full service weekdays and limited service on Saturday, at $1.50 a ride with unlimited transfers.

Restaurants

New Haven Avenue is a busy place for food, close to downtown Melbourne as well as a mall. Within one mile of the venue, Yelp locates 26 places to eat: this includes chains such as Subway (which is in the same building as the venue), Wawa, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Wendy's, McDonalds, and Arby's, as well as one of the best places to get a burger around, Harbor City Diner. Expand the search to two miles and the number of results increases to 67, which includes a mall food court. This adds chains such as Bennigan's, Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen, Woody's BBQ, TGI Fridays, Red Robin, Smokey Bones, Outback, Popeyes, Steak and Shake, Chick-fil-A, Taco Bell, and Burger King.

For your more immediate needs, the venue has sodas, drinks and snacks available. There is a Walgreens on the corner, as well as a Wawa gas station and a Lucky's Market for groceries just across the street.

I hope this information is some help. Let me know if you have any questions. I'll have another update soon with some prize support information. I'm trying to finalize a couple things, but should have some exciting news on that front very soon! Thanks for reading, and I hope to see you in Florida in November!
