Welcome to the Weekly 1E Roundup, a weekly column looking back at the past week in the world of First Edition as well as a preview of the week ahead. If you've got an event coming up and you'd like to be featured in this column, feel free to contact me at cplaine@gmail.com or on the forums via PM to MidnightLich.
This past weekend was New York Comic Con, which has increasingly become a major source of news for upcoming television and movie projects. This year, Star Trek was no exception as we got new trailers for Star Trek Picard and Star Trek Discovery. If you haven't had a chance to watch, the trailers are embedded below. Picard will be arriving January 23rd, 2020 and Discovery Season 3 will drop later in the year.
For the time being, The Continuing Committee has decided not to use Discovery, Picard, or any other modern-era Trek as source material for our games. But we can still enjoy new Star Trek, and have fun speculating about what we'll see and how these stories might appear in the game. Which series are you excited for?
Last week was Captain Sisko's birthday, and today it's Captain Archer's! Scott Bakula, the actor behind Star Trek: Enterprise's Captain Jonathan Archer, turns 65 years old today. Prior to appearing in the center seat for the fifth series, Bakula was most famous for appearing on Quantum Leap. He currently appears on the procedural NCIS: New Orleans. Happy birthday, sir!
It was a quiet weekend this past week, with no events. Hopefully everyone was able to have fun and do something Star Trek related. If you'd like to have your tournament, casual game, or other 1E get together covered in this column, let me know! You can find my contact information at the bottom of every column, and you're welcome to email me, PM me, or just post on the forums.
This weekend sees a pair of First Edition tournaments hosted by John Corbett (KillerB) in Denison, Texas. The first will be a Silver Tin Draft on Saturday, October 12th with four (4) players pre-registered. Hopefully the drafting is fun and leads to some great games!
On Sunday, October 13th, there is an OTF Complete Constructed event, dubbed the "main event" for 1E for the weekend. In addition to Michael and Ben, Josh Sheets (prylardurden) is registered for this event (as well as the draft the day before), as is Matt Sinclair (klingon_25). I'm told there is a lot of sealed product available, so there should be some good old fashioned 1E insanity.
Looking further ahead, the Road to Worlds 2020 will kick off in November with two high level events: Space Coast Trek Masters in West Melborne, Florida on November 10th and British Nationals in Greater Manchester on November 16th. Both evens are looking for more players to pre-register, and we'll be covering both in more detail as we get closer to the event dates.
Do you have an event coming up? A tournament or get-together? Let me know! Contact me at any of the links at the bottom of this column, and I'll happily promote your event in a future edition of this column!
