Weekly 1E Roundup - 23 JANUARY 2020

by Charlie Plaine, Director of First Edition

23rd January 2020

Distribution Node

Welcome to the Weekly 1E Roundup, a weekly column looking back at the past week in the world of First Edition as well as a preview of the week ahead. If you have questions, comments, or suggestions for content, you can contact me at cplaine@gmail.com or on the forums via PM to MidnightLich. I'm happy to write about your tournaments, get togethers, or other 1E-related goings-on. But for now, let's get into the column and see what's been going on in the world of First Edition!

The Big News

Q Who is now available for a free and immediate download, and will be legal in all formats this Friday. As we mentioned last week, this expansion introduces a fully playable faction of [TNG] Borg with a special focus on beginning Borg players. The design team was hoping to provide a stepping stone between normal decks and the rules, deck building, and play complexity of the Borg. You can check out a beginner-friendly Borg deck along with an explanation in this article from expansion designer Paddy Tye (KazonPADD).

Tournament Reports

Before we take a look at the single tournament last week, there were a pair of casual games between Jon Callan (JCallan1) and Graham Matuszewski (matuszeg) from Los Angeles, California. In the first game, Jon defeated Graham 110-0; Jon piloted this beginner-friendly [Fed] [TNG] deck while Graham played Kevin's Oath of the Black (Hole) deck. In the second game, Graham got revenge and won 140-5. Thanks for the report, guys!

In the Q Who release tournament held in Hull in the United Kingdom, four (4) players gathered for an OTF Complete Constructed event. Paddy Tye won the day with his [TNG] [Bor] deck, which you can read about in his article linked at the top of this article. Alex Dixon (alexd) took second with [KCA], while Gary (admiralgary) took 3rd playing some flavor of Non-Aligned. Rounding out the day was Tony Thrustle (NCC-1764), who also piloted Borg.

As you can see, I'm happy to cover tournaments and casual games in this column - you just have to let me know. You can find my contact information at the bottom of every column, and you're welcome to email me, PM me, or just post on the forums. So if you're out there, playing 1E in any way, shape, or form, tell us about it!

Tournament Previews

We've got two tournaments taking place this coming weekend. On Saturday, in Roseville, Minnesota, USA, there will be an Warp Speed Cube Draft event featuring a brand new Cube but together by Jason Tang (Pants o.t. Tal Shiar). Hosted by Mr. Tang himself at the Fantasy Flight Games Center in Roseville, this looks to be a fun event. Aside from Jason, Kris Sonsteby (LORE) and Joe Kallstrom (Commander Joe) are also pre-registered. I'm excited to hear about this event and see the Cube played more and more.

On Sunday, in Brooklyn, New York in the USA, Robin Honeycutt (robin1234) is organizing an OTF Complete Constructed tournament at the Lock Yard. Currently there are three (3) players pre-registered for the event, including Matthew Sokol (mrpurple) and Jules. Hopefully more players will show up and get these events kicking off again!

If you have upcoming events, get togethers, or anything else scheduled that's 1E related, let me know. I'd love to feature you and your friends in this column.
