It is with pleasure that I report the selection committee for the position of Director of Second Edition has reached a consensus verdict. With six (6) votes and one (1) abstention, the Selection Committee has unanimously chosen Nick Yankovec (nickyank) for this board position. The selection committee had the fortune to be able to consider four (4) candidates with credible cases for their abilities to fill the Director of Second Edition role. We chose Nick because we felt he best met the requirements and would best fit the responsibilities for this vital role. No candidate, including Mr. Yankovec, was perfect; similarly, no candidate was ever out of consideration.
We submitted Nick's name to the Board after careful review of all applications, interviews, and public discourse. We are pleased that a consensus was reached as designed by our model, even though it took some time. We consider this a positive: multiple members of the committee preferred other candidates, but through debate and deliberation, we were able to reach a unanimous decision. Nick's selection reflects a good-faith effort to balance each candidate's potential for good against the reality that all the candidates are imperfect, while also respecting the judgments of the committee members who might have a different perspective on the candidates.
We look forward to seeing Nick take up this position and wish him nothing but success in his new role. We are grateful to have participated in this process and that it functioned as intended, resulting in a unanimous candidate. We thank the Board, and the community, for this opportunity to serve.
