Improved Online Play Experience

by Brian S, Director of Operations

8th April 2020

Amidst the disruption of social-distancing, we have updated the site's functionality to improve the online play experience. Every member of our site can now import and export decks from LackeyCCG. Whether your game is First Edition, Second Edition, or Tribbles, this site's deck system and Lackey's deck system now work together.

A little over a month ago, the Continuing Committee's Board of Directors voted on a measure to make it easier to play our games. The idea was to make freely available to all members of our site the feature allowing import and export of decks from LackeyCCG. This feature was previously only available at the Premium Membership level. It wasn't available for all three games (and sometimes didn't work for the games it was).

The eagle-eyed among you may have noticed the links already. After internal testing, we "soft-launched" the feature a week ago to see if any bugs popped up. They always do.

I can already hear you asking, "Where is it?" Well, let me show you.

Dashboard Links

If you go to your Dashboard, you'll see links near the top to "My Decks" (1E, 2E, Tribbles). These will take you to the page where you can manage your decklists for each of the games. From here, you can upload or download your decks.

Lackey Export as txt

To upload a deck, first you need to export it from Lackey in .txt format. In Lackey, just below the decklist, there's a button that says "Export as txt". This will save a txt file to your Lackey decks directory on your computer.

Decklist Links

Now that you have the txt file, you can upload it to the site. You can do that via the "Upload From Lackey" link near the top of the page. This will take you to the page where you choose your txt file, give your deck a name so you recognize it in our system, then hit the "Upload" button.

Assuming the universe was kind to you today, your file should upload, then the browser will be redirected to your new deck. Congrats! You have a new deck in our system. You can find it at any time by going to the previously mentioned link on your dashboard.

Deck Export

To export a deck from our site, find the deck in your list. On a line beneath the deck name, you will find a link "Export to Lackey". Clicking this link will download a .txt file. Move that file to your Lackey decks directory on your computer. Then, within Lackey's deck editor, click the "Browse" button near the top. This will bring you to the list of decks on your computer. Simply select the deck file you just downloaded and click the "Choose" button. Congrats! You just transferred a deck from the site to Lackey.

First Edition has a lot of side decks. They are all available now in Lackey. If you export a deck from our site, the side decks will load perfectly into Lackey!

First Edition Piles

As with all things in life, nothing is perfect. While we've tried to ensure that everything works flawlessly between our site and Lackey, there are always going to be slight problems. Lackey is a flawed program with limitations that can only be overcome by its developer. So here are a few things that you should be aware of:

Fill Empty Piles

Credit for these improvements should go to the Programming Team. In particular, Markus Eberlein (eberlems) and Chris Lobban (Maelwys).
