Weekly 1E Roundup - 6 MAY 2020

by Charlie Plaine, Director of First Edition

6th May 2020

100,000 Tribbles - Flash

Welcome to the Weekly 1E Roundup, a weekly column looking back at the past week in the world of First Edition as well as a preview of the week ahead. If you have questions, comments, or suggestions for content, you can contact me at cplaine@gmail.com or on the forums via PM to MidnightLich. I'm happy to write about your tournaments, get togethers, or other 1E-related goings-on. But for now, let's get into the column and see what's been going on in the world of First Edition!

The Big News

For the first time in almost four (4) years, there are new Tribbles cards! While I don't talk too much about Tribbles in this column, managing that game is offically part of my job as Director of First Edition. Yesterday saw the release of A Tribble of a Different Color, which brings eighteen (18) new cards and twelve (12) new powers to this fun little game. Many of the new powers work together to enable a new deck type, but find may find homes in standard decks too. There are new versions of old powers as well as fun, simple, and splashy new powers for old decks to enjoy. If you play Tribbles, then check out the new expansion and build some new decks. If you don't, I hope you'll still check out the cards just to see the amazing new art from Art Director Johnny Holeva (jjh) and Tribbles Art Director Andrea Heywood (Kamala). In any case, may your tribble breeding be exponential and your points plentiful.

Tournament Reports

The Online Regional has finished up, with fourteen (14) players battling over the past month. Winner Kris Sonsteby (LORE) and runner-up Jon Carter (pfti) claimed the top two spots piloting [TNG] [Rom] decks - you can check out Kris's deck here and Jon's deck here. Though he hasn't posted his deck as of this authoring of this article, Christian (LuthySloan) reporidly played [Fed] [OS] and Pope (princedetenebres) also played [TNG] [Rom], giving them three out of the top four finishes.

Black Hole

It was a really tough field, with strength of scheduling breaking victory point ties from 2nd all the way through 9th place. Yours truly came in 10th, piloting a very slightly modified version of Kevin Jaeger's Black Hole deck. Several players have posted tournament reports, so if you're interested in the current metagame and players thoughts on it, I encourage you to check those out.

If you're playing, getting together, I want to hear about it! Did you play online? Tell me about it! Play with family? Send me pictures! I'm happy to cover tournaments and casual games in this column - you just have to let me know. You can find my contact information at the bottom of every column, and you're welcome to email me, PM me, or just post on the forums. So if you're out there, playing 1E in any way, shape, or form, tell us about it!

Tournament Previews

If you have upcoming events, virtual get togethers, or anything else scheduled that's 1E related, let me know. I'd love to feature you and your friends in this column. I typically only see them if they're scheduled in our tournament software, so if you're not using that, please let me know!

Short Treks (In Other News)

That's all for this week's roundup of First Edition news and events. For more news, you can follow The Continuing Committee on Facebook, Twitter, or bookmark our front page.
