Join the 1E Balance Team!

by Charlie Plaine, Director of First Edition

1st September 2020

Earlier this year, I announced the Balance Team, a new restructuring of the Errata Team to better focus on the health of the game. Now, Balance Team Leads Dan Hamman (SirDan) and Jason Robinette (JasonRed3) are prepared to recruit their staff and begin the hard work of digging into the game's health.

As a volunteer on the Balance Team, you will be tasked with monitoring the play environment of First Edition. While a focus will be placed on tournament and high-level play, volunteers will also need to be aware of lower-level events and casual play. The team will identify issues and potential issues and discuss solutions, including possible rules changes, cards bans, errata, and potential new card designs. Each volunteer on the team will serve a term of 12-18 months, then take a break before being eligible to serve again. By having a rotating staff, we hope to ensure fresh perspectives and energy to make sure the team is connected to the community.

To apply, fill out the short Google Form here:

Balance Team Application

The application form asks for some brief demographic information and for you to provide some explanation on your point of view on the current game. The Continuing Committee and the Department of First Edition are committed to geographic diversity, so candidates from outside of North America are highly encouraged to apply. Dan and Jason will be looking for a wide range of skill levels, participation levels, and diverse points of view in order to build a team that can well-represent the community of players.

Applicants will be contacted directly by either Dan or Jason for follow up. Applications will remain open indefinitely, as we will be constantly rotating the staff and looking for more volunteers.
