Promo-a-Week: Distress Mission

by Cristoffer Wiker, First Edition Designer

30th November 2020

Distress Mission

Today's promo, the latest in the Promo-a-Week project, debuted in the Introductory 2-Player Game. Rescue Mission appeared in the Federation Deck as a white-bordered promo, and has only been available as a white-bordered card - until now! The promo-a-week version finally brings a black-bordered version of the mission to First Edition!

This planet location has some really massive requirements as both ways of solving it needs triples of a skill. Youth is maybe not the easiest to find for most affiliations, but the Federation might be in a good position there; they have loads of Youth. Even better, some of these can even be found using Assign Mission Specialists: Calloway, Giusti, Linda Larson, Simon Tarses, and Yeoman Vaughn. All together, these personnel can make this 35 point mission really soar.

Of course, it's not exactly hard to find Honor either, especially for the Klingons - they have six different Mission specialists to help you get those bonus points. You can pick from Batrell, Gorath, Kahless, Kle'eg, Korris, and Vekma.

So no matter if you're using Federation blue or Klingon red, you've got the skills (and potential bonus points) covered. As for the other part of the requirements, Federation doesn’t have any problems with CUNNING while the Klingons have no problem with STRENGTH.

As the only ones that can attempt are Federation and Klingon, you would think that this would not show up in that many decks. However, Plans of the Tal Shiar will help with use this in a Romulan deck. After all, Romulans have a lot of both Youth and Honor personnel. In fact, Borix and Caithlin Dar bring both skills to your deck.

Likewise, you can use this mission with the Cardassians with Plans of the Obsidian Order. Cardassians have the same number of Honor personnel as the Romulans, but they struggle with only four Youth personnel. At least Hogue does double duty with both skills.

We hope you've enjoyed this look at the new AI of Distress Mission. Here are some more combos you can use with this card; hopefully they will inspire some deck construction!
