Volunteers Needed for 1E YouTube Videos

by Charlie Plaine, Director of First Edition

31st December 2021

There's no question that the COVID-19 pandemic have made the last two years really difficult for most of us. But for fans of First Edition, there's been a slight silver lining: renewed interest in our beloved game, especially on Facebook. And as a side effect of this, we've seen a lot of new content being created on YouTube. Did you know The Continuing Committee has a YouTube channel? We wouldn't fault you if you didn't; it's hosting mostly live streams (meetings, raffles) and tournament games. But now, hopefully you're going to help us change the channel into a prime source of information about First Edition!

The Department of First Edition has big plans to create lots of new content about our beloved game for YouTube, but we need help - and we're turning to you. We're looking to recruit volunteers to help write scripts, record content, edit video, and create elements for the videos. Our department has big plans, but we need help to get it all done. And, in conjunction with the Department of Communications, we are looking for a Channel Coordinator to help manage this project.

Here's a list of the different volunteer roles we're looking for for this project. If you're interested in volunteering in any capacity, please reach out to Charlie Plaine a.k.a. MidnightLich via private message or email.

Channel Coordinator
The channel coordinator will be responsible for managing The Continuing Committee's YouTube channel. Their job will be to ensure that content is being uploaded, tagged, and managed. In addition, they will provide statistics on views, trends, and engagement, and work with participating departments to address issues. This individual will officially work under the Department of Communications, but for the time being, will join the Department of First Edition as we launch this project.

Script Writers
Our plans consist of a number of scripted video series - tutorials on how to play 1E, history of the game, deep dives on card types, mechanics, and rules. We're looking for writers who can work as part of a team to deliver scripts with a consistent tone for each video series.

Presenters
Presenters will appear in videos - usually just via voice, sometimes via video - and perform the scripts written. We welcome a diverse cast of individuals to join this project, each of whom can bring their own personality to the content.

Graphic Artists
When explaining difficult concepts, its invaluable to have visual aids and we're looking for individuals to help develop those elements. On-screen graphics, either taken from existing cards or created for the videos, will help the content reach audiences and help the videos stand out.

Video Editors
Once the scripts are written and performed, we're looking for someone who can compile the elements together into completed videos.

Once again, if you're interested in volunteering in any capacity, please reach out to Charlie Plaine a.k.a. MidnightLich via private message or email. We know how much time and energy this work can take, which is why we're looking to put together a team of talented people to spread out and share the workload. We look forward to hearing from you!
