Classification: Civilian: Two Weeks Out

by Ross Fertel,

1st March 2022

Classification Civilian was tournament legal on Friday, February 18. In the second weekend of legality, a tournament was played at Mint Hill, North Carolina on Thursday, February 24.

Two decks were publicly posted as of this writing. Both decks stocked Morphogenic Virus and neither had Occasional Emergency. One deck was an update for the Dominion side of Commodities, and the other was a Thief deck using Pillar of the Community.

The Dominion deck, Drink, Swear, Steal and Lie by blinkgotti, used the original Home of the Great Link Headquarters to take advantage of the Non-Aligned Personnel who interact with Commodities. If you take out the Commodities and cards that have that word in their gametext, this is a very lean deck. It stocks one of each non-Ferengi related Commodity and cards that either get a discount or have some other interaction with Commodities both old and new. Raimus, Syndicate Collaborator is in there allowing you to not only give one of the ten Commodities to your opponent but also to exclude him and another of the seven Personnel with Acquisition from a random selection. Christopher Pike, Prospective Orion Trader makes an appearance to gain a skill with the other twenty-four thieves and there are plenty to choose form, including the Gatherers. Of course, this deck stands to gain from Hard Bargain, Totally Legitimate. With that many Commodities, the upper limit of four will be hit in no time. If you have been avoiding Commodities and/or Gatherers but want to get some nice achievements, this deck might be worth checking out.

Hard Bargain, Totally Legitimate also makes an appearance in the Thief deck, Nathan Miracle’s Pillar of Salt. There two decks have a lot in common beyond that ship. They are both Thief heavy and include Gathers. Pillar of Salt does not go the Commodity route opting for the Pillar of the Community draws instead. It has no Commodities but there are a couple Crime Events for your core. There are multiples of these key cards to ensure that they get out with enough time to wreck havoc and Pillar of the Community can help cycle the duplicates. There are also some artifacts for you to take advantage of after you get a mission under your belt, some of which are Orbs which fit thematically though the headquarters is Mouth of the Wormhole, Terok Nor.

As the second weekend after the release of Classification: Civilian comes to a close, we see that some trends are emerging along with some clear favorites from the set. Take a look and give them, or any of the other cards, a whirl in your next tournament.
